Ive never played 79 bracket and im thinking about trying it out for a while. The goal is to get enough honor to buy gear at level 80. Is it worth doing? Im horde by the way.

Sure. Plenty of people do it. Some even stick around for longer. Others have told me they regretted going to 80 and should've stayed 79. But give it a go.
