I strolled over to Dustwallow Marsh and started killing whelps. I got the Dark Whelping on the third kill. Is it time to play the lottery? Forgive my bragging. I just can't believe my luck if it's really a 0.05% drop and I just went "I'd like a cute little dragon pet" and got one in two minutes.

I would say, considering the price for these on Horde Lordaeron is 5k, Alliance Lordaeron is 3.8k, Icecrown Horde 6.8k and Alliance Icecrown 3k.. I suspect the drop rate is at least low enough to justify those kind of prices.
Also, I guess if you're on Icecrown alliance the neutral AH is your friend for these? :P

wow! I'm on Frostmourne and the AH seems to have stopped working in the days leading up to the shutdown, so I didn't know. that's awesome. I kept it as a pet, I can make that kinda money mining eventually i'm sure.
