If you played on seasons 1 and 2, your char is gone long ago.
Each time at launch, during season and after season end, it was always clearly stated what you have to do and what time period you've got.
So it was your responsibility to transfer it in time.
If they don't show up on list after selecting Frostmourne, they are indeed gone for good. You had one year after each season to transfer your character(s) to Icecrown.
