You can join a guild that runs T5. You can play a desirable class and spec. You can go quest while you're waiting and get up to 6k gold that way.
Joining late in TBC especially during T6 content is rough. The game will require more of you. Ideally you want to get a roster spot and just ride the wave. The plus side is a ton of guilds are recruiting.
If you can't close the gap honestly ZA and Sunwell patch are around the corner for you to catch up pretty easily.
