I don't think WotLk Classic client is gonna be of any use, maybe to launch the game, but when the game files and everything is outside of that client i don't think the optimisations are gonna apply and improve performance if that's what you are talking about
I don't think that we will see support for the new client anymtime soon (or ever).
The whole network protocol has changed in the newer clients, different packet ids (so called opcode), packet structures are totally different too, they're using "jam messages" since vanilla cataclysm, there's a video about it here:

I don't think that Trinity Code is working on such implementation, so there's no code that could be merged and it's a huge task.
Worth it re-implementing hundreds of packet handlers server-side and support the old and new client at the same time? I don't think so.
The data the client expects is different, too.
Unless something is being done by the emu community we will probably never see support for 3.4.X
