(pre-patch / wotlk release or even later ?)
EDIT: I´M NOT TALKIN ABOUT COMPLETE REMOVAL. JUST TALKING ABOUT THEM NOT BEING OBTAINABLE NO MORE.

I don't think they are ever removed? Even in Icecrown the vendors are still there even though there never has been a way of obtaining them. They were unobtainable beginning with 3.3.3, but Blizzard didn't remove the item from players bags.
Of course, better wait for a staff response before you stockpile them.
