Got question about gold squish process

so if you happen to have an inactive character in your account you'll lose half of your gold once in a year?

Any gold that you have is cut in half every gold squish.

If you have a character, its gold is cut. No matter if it's in/active.

would you make it clear that this process happens to everyone, is there way to prevent it?

Any gold anywhere is halved. Everybody are subjected to it.

You can't prevent gold being cut, but you can buy stuff with gold beforehand, let it squish your remaining 7g to 3g50s and then sell stuff after squish.
