Everyone in this thread should download an addon called auctioneer.
Like people have said before, underpricing anything doesn't help the market at all. In fact, you're creating such a huge gap between the highest and lowest price that the only options your competetiors have is to either buy out your stuff and relist, or completely give up on that area of the market. Not everyone that is trying to make a profit off something like wool cloth is a lowbie. It's more likely that the guy farming and pricing these things high is an ungeared 85 trying to make cash with something that can be farmed easily, his own little niche in the market.
Secondly, prices are determined by the demand. Something like wool cloth is not in high demand. Nobody crafts usable gears with that stuff. The only people that will buy it are those that are levelling tailoring, and charging somebody that much for something they will buy probably only once on that character is not awful, since you are basically charging them for the convenience of buying the 1 stack they will need. Many will be willing to pay that rather than spend 10 minutes flying there to farm it.
If you think prices are unbalanced, then look up items that are in high demand, such as elementium, pyrite, whiptail, embersilk cloth...max level crafting mats. The fact is that with a population as high as this, economies often balance themselves out. You just need to know how to look at it.
The real question is why the people want so much gold ? just for presuming ? (to say hey i have 300k gold, o wow, but i have all that much which i'm not going to waste it all by far) because gold for repairs that is which i consider the first need of it you have more than enought by doing dailies in tol barad.
People need gold to buy gear, mats for better gear, flasks, scrolls, gear for alts...you basically need it to survive in this game. That's a ridiculous question. Yes, you need gold for repairs too but that's a small portion of what you will spend on.
