Who designed this class and what was he(they) thinking ?!

Things like this is why I prefer Cata pvp to WOTLK pvp. WOTLK had too many classes that could do a lot of damage with little to no skill. Anyone who has died to a shadow priest in WOTLK, checked the combat log, and saw that they were just spamming devouring plague at you knows what I'm talking about.

In Cata, rets weren't as faceroll, shadow priests couldn't spam devouring plague, there really weren't that many classes that were just faceroll OP. It's a weak point of the generally great expansion that is WOTLK.

I will say, though, that the downside of playing a ret in WOTLK is you get very little respect when you win, even if you did happen to do some competent things.

Paladins were weak in the beginning of WoW.

In Wotlk everything is balanced - learn to play is the case here

It seems like you're pissed off due to the fact that players who pick paladins and have no real skill own you in pvp. Tell you what, paladins may not have the highest skill cap in the game which makes it an easy class to play if you're new. If you're not new however, you should appreciate playing a class with a high skill cap so you can evolve and get better at the game, and once you manage to become really good at said class then a noob paladin won't be a match for you. It's all about learning to play in this case. Also what works in your favor is that you should easily be able to take down a skilled paladin as well, since to be fair the class isn't over powered at all. Go read a guide or something and start practicing, whining here doesn't help you at all.

Its wotlk which came after tbc where paladins were in a wierd spot, but a good one in my opinion- Supporting role with all their utility, that was their uniqueness, then ofc wotlk came out with the undead theme, so paladins had to play a bigger role, therefor they made every spec on par with other classes.

Problem is they are over the top during this expansion, especially ret competing or being top dps vs other pure dps classes... Never agreed to that design decision since paladins offer a lot in terms of class power... but yea, its a design decision overall so nothing to do there.

wotlk has too much damage for low hp pools tbh, but w/e.

main focus is the pve for me so i don't mind, but yea I think, pvp-wise, cata was a lot better.

In wotlk every little mistake can and will cost you death. If you don't prevent bursts,CCs etc. you are dead. Outcome surviving certain things is really really rewarding and satisfied.

OK buddy I'm going to stop you there.... (Early) Cata was one of the most balanced PvP patches ever, every spec, every class was viable in PvP... Going into late Cata.. RETS WERE FACEROLL, SPREISTS COULD SPAM DP... let me carry on the list of faceroll classes in Cata.. Frost Mage, MM/BM Hunter, UHDK, Arms Warrior, Enhance Shaman, Feral Druid, Sub Rogue....

You clearly havent pvp'd enough, or did some high level arenas.

I've heard both Talbadar and Tosan say Cata was the peak of WoW pvp. I'm sure others share that view, but I watch their livestreams so I can speak to them. Tosan recently said that he was watching some of his old skill capped videos from the end of Cata and he was amazed by how many different and interesting ways the game could play out in that expansion.

As far as rets being OP, their arena representation was lousy in Cata.

Just from a quick google search, but if you have proof that any ret not named Vanguards was doing well in Cata then post it.

S priests may technically have been able to spam DP in Cata, but you don't see them do it to anything like the extent they did in WOTLK because it didn't hit nearly as hard as in WOTLK. I know- I do most of my bgs in Cata, and I see s priests spamming mind spike, not DP.

Perhaps it's just me or the people I played with, but dutring retail I always thought that paladins, especially rets were one of the weaker damage dealing classs

He probably plays a hunter one of the noobiest class there is.

I'm gonna stop YOU there. You clearly didn't play PvP in early Cataclysm, or at least at a VERY speculative level, if you think hunters were worth anything. The top composition for them was KFC and that was hardly even a tier 1 composition. They were, in fact, terrible throughout most of Cataclysm, and only slightly viable once fully equipped with the final seasons gear. You mention arms warrior which was extremely poor throughout the whole expansion, as well, and enhancement shamans which were never tier 1 either, and only viable in the company of a warlock. I can hardly think of a less balanced expansion.

Edit: Oh, and do you remember the poor priests, who, if not specced shadow, were forced to play holy due to discipline being extremely horrible in early cataclysm, and even holy didn't suffice.

Hunters need more skill in every aspect than paladins. We are talking about pvp.
