So I assume it's okay to post what names we have but it's not okay to try and sell them in any way. Yes?
Are we allowed to give names to others for free though? Or is that also not allowed?

What you fail to realize is that this accomplishes nothing. No one is going to delete their level 1 chars and free up names, and now no one is going to sell their level 1 chars and free up names. The next name clean up, be it next year or whenever, we will see the same sort of pattern. People will always try to grab cool names for their level 1s regardless if they plan on playing them.
Atleast if selling using warmane services was allowed, you'd see these names in circulation. Anyways, as it is, this new ruling places a looping flaw that won't resolve itself without additional systems to complicate the whole thing.
On a different note, it would be nice if you guys announce the new decision somewhere publicly for those who don't read this thread. It would suck for those who didn't read this thread to have their names swiped for utilizing warmane's own trade system.
Cheers.
You're allowed to brag about your names, yes. Giving names is fine as well. Now, you could say people will sell them outside and this and that... well, if they want to take the high risk of being scammed, have fun. Just don't cry to us afterwards, of course.
What you fail to realize is that selling names is a bannable offense, whether you like/agree or not. It always has been, we always banned and force-renamed when found. Nothing has changed, there's no new ruling in fact, the existing rule was just clarified to cover a loophole people were trying to exploit.
Since you've made it clear that outside input is not considered on this matter, I will not argue it further. However, no where in writing did I find anything about name selling on the marketplace or restrictions on selling things in the marketplace in any of the Rules threads. Specifically I have read over:
http://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=65037
http://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=251692
and could not find this rule you are specifying, nor any rule that could be interpreted as such. If you would be kind enough to link me to the written rule for reference, that'd be great.
Cheers.
It is stated in the invisible rules. And since people can't see them normally, the moderator was alerting you and I am here confirming it to you, that selling names is not allowed. Using the marketplace as a loophole isn't allowed either. If we find a pack of naked characters with random names being sold in the Marketplace, be aware of the incoming doom.
How wonderful, invisible rules. You gotta love joining this server, not being aware that what you just did is forbidden, not being able to know that it is forbidden without extensively searching the forums and getting banned because of it! I've always learned that communication is key, in any sort of relationship.
What Bruu said is true, what you try to achieve with these "invisible rules" is not being achieved at all. When people sell the names they'll at least get used. I mean heck, why not let them sell names for points?
They are trying to teach you to be fair, maybe... Besides, no one who is playing alongside the others, would even think of picking the cool names unless he would play as them (or for a friend, which as palutena mentioned, is absolutely fine)... The invisible rules are there for two things: common sense, and to help you think it out yourself it is bad to do!
If you want, think it like that, not all rules among friends and groups are written or directly known, yet everyone is aware of them and wouldn't cross them for good - alike, in wow...
Woah that's wild, learning a lot if new info here. Do I need to rename my characters to fhdsljfgfdf or something similar before i list them to make sure I'm not including a sweet name as part of the sale that could influence someone buying it?
And what of titles? I sometimes list legacy titles like the discontinued pvp ones as coming with the character in the info. I hope that's not another invisible rule.. Just want some clarification before i have my names changed and/or titles revoked.
If you try to sell legacy pets, mounts, titles, gear or achievements you will get ip banned and your pc will explode, then you'll get swatted and get executed in the electric chair for breaking "invisible rules" judged by the FISA court. After all, they are invisible and you can't possible be aware of them, therefore you should have known about them.
BREAKING NEWS, the world is unfair, little children in Africa dying from hunger and obese Americans eating themselves to death. This is not a group of friends where everyone tries to respect each other. It's a bunch of tryhards that enjoy having more than someone else, even if they can't really use it themselves.
That being said, with these rules you don't achieve what you want to achieve; the names being used.
No, you don't have to change your name. The name influencing a sale isn't an issue; the name being the sole or central purpose of one is. Titles are achievements attained by the character, much like the equipment that will go with it. We don't have any issue with that.
Breaking news for you as well: we aim to have a community. While there will always be rotten apples, we expect the feel of our servers to be one of decency and common sense, and we take action where those are amiss, such as this case. Our aim with this rule has nothing to do with "names being used," or we would simply do regular forced renames on idle low level characters. Names aren't a product to be sold, and getting them for that sole purpose is akin to holding them hostage and asking for ransom, which we won't stand for. Feel free to hog "cool" names on your bank alts if you like, but don't expect the same treatment if you want to use names for a profit.
Now, since this thread became little but an argue between common sense and the suspicious butthurt of some people (who act like they are affected directly by this, and can expect to have their accounts to be forwarded, so past and future character trades can be checked), I'll be closing this. Feel free to open a new one to "brag." Don't feel the same about bringing up the complaining over this rule.
