here in dominican republic it doesnt work that way, if u say u are homo, it means u are a male who likes male. only that. girls dont say they are homo or u wont say a girl is homo. u just say she is lesbian. even tho the dictionary says the opposite.
we, men, joke around a lot like that. claiming that we are "lesbian" just for the fact that lesbian girls like girls.
in spanish it got more sense "yo soy lesbiano" that word is ending in "ano" meaning 2 things, first one means it is a male word and that the user is male. and second one means ****.
