Jokes aside, Gab needs to simply ask a girl out. No silly "get to know first" bullcrap. If you like her, ask her out. The worst it can happen is she says no and you can get over it.

I learned to be confident and how to talk to people when I worked as a librarian on a part-time schedule in the university's library. I had to interact with over 300 people daily, including other students and professors, in some 5 hours of work. I had to talk to them about books, art and other crap they were interested in and I had to keep a relaxed and chill attitude at all times, no matter what. I also had to initiate conversation with newbies, foreign students and people that simply didn't know what to look for.
