did not say there was a game design flaw. i said people got mad at changes and the neglect they felt when it came to something they enjoyed doing.
Or they just got tired of WoW gameplay in general and would never have played another expansion. Or their friends got tired of it and they only want to play with friends. Or they got a new job and can't commit to raids. Or the new system requirements pushed them out. Or any other number of plausible scenarios that have nothing to do with people not liking Cataclysm's design specifically.
There were 14 tiers of pvp ranks. The top certain percentage of people with the most kills for that week or maybe biweekly were awarded grand marshal and high warlord and then the lesser people were awarded ranks accordingly. Your rank determined the level of pvp gear you were allowed to buy which was obtained with gold and not honor.
Also fun fact, there was such a thing as a dishonorable kill for killing lowbies or enemy npc quest givers.
This system never changed much even after they introduced battlegrounds, but before then people would just go to southshore / tarren mill and just whack eachother all week.
Not everyone in this game is focused on slaying dragons when they play WoW. The swap from wotlk to cata didn't make a big difference what so ever for the pvp community, it simply removed a ton of utterly useless points from the tree in most cases.
That doesn't justify the PvP being "good" in any shape or form. People were awful and the game lacked content, let's not forget how broken the game was during vanilla, it was a huge cluster ****. PvP has to be judged by how good it would be today, and vanilla simply fails to hold up to expectations in that regard, it was simply way to bugged and imbalanced. The thing that it did amazingly well, is to give you a feeling of being a part of a massive community. It also offered you a really wonderful world to explore, where you could actually meet someone on your way and get side tracked into huge PvP battles, etc.
Take a guess why I mentioned TBC in my post.Quote:
WotLK too. Let's not forget RDF was implemented in late Wrath. :P
This is the one and only true argument why most people prefer the older expansions.
Wrath didn't have better talent trees,
The pvp wasn't more balanced,
Raids weren't harder,
The lore was different, but not necessarily better written,
The one part where Blizzard has failed and continues failing more is taking away the sense of community. Like someone else mentioned, WoD feels like a single player game. Every expansion had features that slowly broke it down to this. Now everyone just sits in their Garrison stroking their D while managing their missions.
On a side note, this is where Molten shines (and why I prefer playing here) because you have 1) a global channel, 2) LFR doesn't work (or at least didn't when I played), 3) more people questing in the open world rather than racing through RDF, 4) There's only a handful of big guilds as opposed to the hundreds and hundreds of small guilds on retail. 5) No cross-realm! This is a good thing, as it doesn't tear the realm community apart, everyone more or less knows each other.
I did not say PvP is easy, it's just faceroll. Get Shadowmourne = win. 2 warriors in 2s = win. It's just stupid.
And I did not say I hated the PvE content, simply, compared to other expansions, the raids were very easy (I did love Ulduar, though, still one of my favourite raids)
Excuse you, I enjoyed clicking the 3 relevant spells my class had in a mob of 80 backpedaling people, half of which were lowbies whose sole purpose was to paint the floor with a crossword composed of their names, for the entirety of the 20 seconds it took you to run out of mana at which point I would sigh in relief, no longer having to deal with the daunting task of clicking 3 things in no particular order, bust out my magic stick and proceed to squirt my enemies with water whilst trying to convince the raid chat how underrated wand specialization is.
Then again, I was also 12.
I watched all World of Roguecraft series on yt. Really that rogue playstyle is total crap.
Mmmm... cuz wotlk is better?
wotlk has a certain magic to it, you can't explain it
i find this really hard to believe, sorry to say but no. People play this expansion because they're familiar with it. It's been proven that people tend to hold on to things they're familiar with. Cataclysm- hardly anything works. Mop - nothing works. Wotlk - a lot works. Anyone that is wanting to try something new may go to mop or cata and quickly realize all the good stuff is missing. MoP - no brawler arena, no pet battles, no lfr. I'm not going to go on because it's really pointless to do so. People enjoy playing servers that present the least amount of bugs.
The fun involved had very little to do with the content itself, though much of it was a result of how the content was handled. Much of the older content (Vanilla and a good bit of TBC) is looked at with fondness of social experience within those expansions which hardly exists in the game's current iteration. Which is why I rated them just about the same as today's single-player MMO that is Warlords. Both have their strengths, and those strengths are in different areas.
I wasn't 12.
If my point of view was different, I might have agreed with you. I've played on Blizzard servers since late Vanilla, and I can say that I play WotLK on here because it is the expansion I've enjoyed the most so far. Hence why I said "In my own experience". Don't take it out of context please.
