The key to success as an Arcane mage is not being noticed (if you know what I mean).

So no, Arcane Mage isn't challenging to play, like at all.

Pity the casuals in the arena ladders with their close quarter combat of CD management and pillar humping. The real PvP talent lies in spreading diseases in random BGs until you die and maintaining a superior mobility and hand/eye-coordination as a clicker BM hunter.
