Was I right or wrong?

Hey all,

So I'm in a weird situation wanted to know what you guys think.

So today I was in a FL trash farm, [Ranseur of Hatred] (Agility Polearm) dropped and me and another hunter rolled for it. I rolled a 53 I think and the hunter rolled a 56. The leader gave me the item by which I can assume was by accident as I have not heard or seen of the leader before. The hunter asked for the weapon but I refused to give it as in my mind it is the leaders fault for giving me the item.

What do you guys think about this? Was I right or wrong to keep the item even though it was wrongfully given to me?

It depends on the perspective at which you look at this particular case.

Based on current rules, any "mistake" of loot given to you by the Master Looter, is the responsibility of the Master Looter, not you, the "player" to return the item. It would be upon your judgement to deem necessary to give the item to the appropriate proprietor.

With respect to morals, it is "morally" incorrect to keep an item incorrectly given to you as a mistake. For example, if a bank credited you £1000 more than you should have, and you had taken that money without informing the bank, it would be "morally" wrong and there would be a consequence for it.

However, in this circumstance, there is no consequence so it is up to the player, to determine what the "correct" procedure to do with such item.

Well, when you enter in the realm of morality, there is no right or wrong... there are opinions, so nothing is correct.

Aside that fact, I think you should have assessed the case with fairness. That only shows who you really are, since those decisions are made in the moment and are not tempered with. Your gut told you to be unfair and keep the item, and the fact that is was not your mistake, is just an excuse to make you feel better, because it was in your power to return it and make things right, and you choosed not to with all the time in the world to make that decision with no pressure what so ever.

Hope you change in time, for the better.
EDIT: keeping in mind this is solely my opinion.

Things like this put your patience to the test. Because despite the decision itself, there are circumstances to take in to account, like how lucky were you in the past days trying to get what you were looking for... desperation is an evil doer, and you have to have the strength in you to endure that and still make the right and fair decisions that not always favor you.

You clearly know someone else won the item, fair and square.
The fact the raid leader perhaps made a mistake doesn't exempts you from responsibility for what's pretty much stealing.

Morally wrong, logically right.
Moral is man made and therefore depends on multiple factors, while nature dictates survival of the fittest.

My opinion : Wrong, if your weapon is weaker than the others hunter's than its debatable (neutral here).

If the guy would have same/better weapon, I'd keep it. If he has some weaker weapon, I'd give it to him.

These were the words I was looking for, just couldn't find them.

I have thought about it and I won't give the weapon to the said hunter but I will give him a portion of the gold I get from selling it (guilty conscience, but not that guilty).

Just to clear things up our weapons for equal and better than the drop, mine being equal, his being greater.

If the other hunter had a better weapon than the loot, I would have just kept it. But if my weapon was better than the loot aswell, I would have given it to the other hunter. Anyway doesn't matter since the raid leader made the mistake, so you have an excuse :P

Wrong. I wouldn't take advantage of somebody's mistake like that. Just imagine being on the other hunter's place. How you gonna feel about all that ? Would you expect to be given the item or not ?

The way you got your item was you being lucky and since /roll is also based on luck, I see nothing wrong here. I would have taken the item aswell.

since he win the roll and u realize that lead give it by accident, u should give that item except if he already have same or better item XD.

Then you are not a man. You are a dishonest boy. An honest man with (self-)respect and principles would have given the item to its right winner. But your ego is too big to be a righteous man.

By your logic, if you win a lottery and the money is transferred to someone else by mistake, it's that guy's right to keep it, while you're left with nothing, tough luck?

Let's make it easier to find out if it's wrong or not. If your roles were switched and he got the item while you rolled higher, would you feel that it would be right for him to give you the item? I know your reasoning now will be different, but try to imagine it and think what you'd do. If your answer is 'nothing, i'd be fine with that', then keep the item.

You were wrong by taking the item,the leader did a mistake but that doesn't make you innocent you should have gave him it other than being selfish and keeping it. Always if you get somethign you should not have and anothe rperson should have give it to him, would you like it if someone got for example gurthalak because leader gave him it but you won roll you would be like that hunter is feeling now.

I believe that I do not have a big ego, but by saying this will most likely make you assume that I do have a big ego.

@TheRealMAIN I thought about the reverse situation and I thought that if the same did happen to me: Yes, I would be angry but I would have to deal with it. I myself believe in karma and if the Forces (God/External Forces) believe I have done something wrong then I am more than happy to take whatever karma throws at me.
