Marketplace changes, good or bad?

Dear community and staff.

I'd like to make an open discussion about the changes that marketplace has gotten since warmane came up. I personally don't like the changes. I'd like to know, why were these changes made. Getting green armor and weapons, mounts, etc. All these items were able to be bought from marketplace, but not anymore. This change was made long time ago, but now i got so anoyed that i can't finish my transmogs without farming low level dungeons. As example, i did Gnomeregan for 1 single piece of transmog, already 4 times, without anykind of positive result.


I'd like to hear from you, staff of Warmane, why did you do such changes. What was wrong with the old system and how's this new system better in your opinion?

a huge, and I mean HUGE part of it was the fact we haven't been voting since Warmane quit the 'top private servers' lists because they were corrupt letting bots vote for private servers that never had that kind of population

so a rework of the concept system was required, and during their inevitable re-evaluation of items to put into the marketplace they decided (for better or for worse) that with low level content being available and being completely redone for Lordaeron Core they didn't need to put any such low level items into the store so they instead put in some higher tier items for players with rotten luck or running with ninjas to be able to obtain certain items without the long rng-grind

yes this means a grind for items... and it's actually an improvement because now you need to spend hours of your time to complete a transmog, not a week of clicking a button or 2...

there is however a point... they did not reintroduce mounts and companions into the store and that... I wish I could say 'greed' doesn't pop in my mind, but why else would you remove even overpriced vanity items from the point store? especially the unobtainable ones in game and now only found in the cash shop

overall the change was a smart move, information coming in some months later told why they removed the mounts and companions from the store - they needed more donations because Lordaeron for all its hype, was only paying for 4% of its upkeep...

they could rework it again now, however, since the point shop's usefulness to the different expansions is widely different
WotLK

• 271 weapons/trinkets
• 264 tier and misc items
• which is in essence, normal best in slot (BiS being 284 and 277 respectively)
• Relentless season 7 PvP items, which is (I believe) a similar step behind the best in slot of the pve gear above

WotLK players complain the marketplace is giving them braindead noobs with gear and with this assessment... they're not wrong

Cata

• 359 weapons and armor
• a limited assortment of 365 rings and trinkets (Molten Front items)
• which is in essence, the raid tier just above farming random heroics
• Vicious Gladiator's season 10 PvP items, which are essentially replaced after 3-4 successful bgs by Ruthless Gladiator's gear

in other words... it's a waste of a single point spent on the marketplace for any other reason than transmog.

MoP

• 476 weapons and armor
• which is in essence Mogu'Shan Vaults raidfinder armor, the lowest tier PvE gear you can obtain by raiding
• Malevolent Gladiator's season 13 pvp items, which (I am assuming) is useless in the current Grievous Gladiator's gear tier

so, recap of MoP is similar to that of Cata where the marketplace is useless except for transmog purpouses

Once upon a time there was a private server where people complained because vote shop allowed them to get items with points, thus players were disappointed because it removed the challenge and thrill from the game itself. People riot, push, badmouth the server because it was like that. Situation changed in the benefit of people, old content was released/fixed/scripted and in the light of those events, marketplace was "restricted" so it wont ruin the thrill anymore. People complained yet again.

P.S. VOTING and VOTE POINTS as such don't exist anymore; now it's just POINTS. You give no ACTUAL benefit to Warmane for those points, except the time spent in-game and/or on forums, which you do regardless.

I know i sound a bit harsh or maybe rude, but you know, i don't get it how is it that people still keep on complaining no matter what the staff do? Just play the damn game, free of charge, with free obtainable points every 24hrs, tons of players, huge community, believe it or not - best state of private server scripting out there. Yes i tried many other servers to really check it by myself, across all possible expansions from BC to MoP even tried WoD.

there's 5 mentions in this thread about 'vote' or 'voting' and yours are 3 of them, I mentioned it in context about why the marketplace had to be redone... no idea where this came from

I don't complain. I just would like to get the old system, or atleast the items back in point shop. It's dumb these days that you have to farm those items, that has 0,4% drop chance from a random rare mobs. Maybe you understand what i mean. I just don't have interest on that. Old shop made it so much easier.


Edit. If the old items, all those that can be transmogged, would be added back to marketplace point shop, i'd be so greatful

Well i was not referring to your post...
Even if i mention thousand times it is not enough for players to understand. The problem is they get what they asked for, an ability to farm items instead buying them with the damn points, now they say it's not good enough they want items to be obtainable through both points and in-game and that is just too much.

and I explained further down my post why it needs another rework seeing as it's "holy mother of sweet baby potatoes" good on WotLK and absolute crap for Cata and MoP... which is a bit ridiculous... near BiS vs less than starting gear we were given after moltdown.

I agree with the notion that items in MoP shop are currently useless. With the introduction of 550 season items, 520 items should be added at least to point shop.

I understand that there isn't high ilvl items, like as example, in cataclysm, no ruthless gear. But i don't understand why there can't be low ilvl items.

Dear staff of Warmane, please, take it in consideration of adding all those green items that can be transmogged, in the marketplace.

There aren't low level items exactly because they aren't used to "boost" new alternate characters for people who have saved points, which is the point. Cosmetic stuff, such as mounts and items solely used for transmogrification, aren't necessary for anyone's playing, so their removal doesn't hinders any game play. The new system promotes that you go out and play the game, instead of relying on "fun server" features. It's much more in line with what we want for the servers to increase the items available on Cataclysm and Mists, but not to re-introduce lower items for any expansion, so that's what I'd be more confident about seeing happen.

It would be valid to complain about unavailable items in content that isn't implemented yet, but that's not your case at all.

so there have been discussions about adding new point items among the staff already? - believe my point on the usefulness of the point shop was rather obvious in my earlier list

completely agreed on your point there, if you want a rare world drop go farm it, makes no sense to be sitting in Stormwind all day and click a button to get your item, this adds a sense of rarity and accomplishment when after 20 hours farming you finally get your transmog pieces

however as you said, also adding items no longer available from world drops or reworked instances or deprecated vendors would not be a bad idea... some items that used to be in the old point shop have not even appeared in the Coin shop since, making them completely unavailable since the rework

I wouldn't know, I just understand how the purpose of the point shop is sorta uneven across different expansions.

Unavailable for people who simply gather free points, yes. Since they are items not available anymore at all (not because content is missing), there isn't really anything unfair about it being a coin shop exclusive, while also increasing by a lot how valuable and rare those items are. Since they are cosmetic, the main purpose is being different, which doesn't happens when anyone with some patience can get the same things. It's an extrapolation of the same logic you agreed regarding drops and making people put in the effort to get them so their rarity and value are differentiated, except with items that aren't meant to be obtainable anymore.

I believe you might have missed my point or I made it poorly, a good example would be my priest's mount which used to be a point shop item but is now not available even in the coin shop

mounts like that should be re-added at least to the coin shop to let donors obtain them, not make them completely unobtainable and only seen on old characters that have gotten them before the shop rework

I see your point, and those are things that should be suggested in the appropriate thread for Marketplace suggestions. I don't know why they were removed even from the coin shop or if they will return.

I think they never were in the coin shop to begin with since I guess the staff thought that some things should also require you to 'vote' for the server to obtain or something, making the point shop have certain items the coin one did not
