The state of BGs is the worst it has ever been
Hello Warmane Team!
I’ve been part of this community since the Molten days back in 2012, having experienced all the highs and lows over the years. However, few things have diminished the enjoyment of the game as much as the current state of battlegrounds.
After returning from a long break, I started queueing solo again. Unfortunately, it now takes on average five or more battlegrounds—and a fair amount of frustration—to secure a single win. The main issue is the matchmaking imbalance between fully geared premade groups and random solo players with far lower gear levels.
Once a premade joins a BG, the result is usually decided within minutes. But rather than ending the game quickly, many players stay to farm hks—camping the enemy graveyard and making it impossible for the other team to even move. This turns BGs into one-sided farm sessions rather than fair, objective-based matches.
To make matters worse, players who try to avoid the inevitable farm, face penalties from the system:
- Standing still at the graveyard allowing them to farm you → removed and given Deserter debuff
- Staying as a ghost to avoid instant death → removed and given Deserter debuff
- Choosing not to engage to let the match end faster → removed and given Deserter debuff
This puts solo players in an unfair position where every option results in punishment. Here are some suggestions on how this could be fixed:
1. Matchmaking Adjustments:
- Separate premade and solo queue battlegrounds
- Limit premade group size (e.g., max 3 players in random BGs)
2. Anti-Farm Measures:
- Implement diminishing HK rewards after a certain number of kills on the same player or within a small area (like graveyards)
- Add a BG auto-end condition if one team is dominating by objectives and HK difference is extreme
3. Revisit Deserter System:
- Differentiate between intentional AFKers and players stuck in hopeless, farmed situations.
- Perhaps allow a grace exit option after a team is being farmed for a set period (e.g., 5 minutes) without penalizing them
4. Introduce RBGs (my personal favorite):
- Implement a BG rating system that assigns each player a rating based on their performance
- Use this rating to match players and teams of similar skill and gear levels
- Rated BGs would also reward coordination and objective play, providing a healthy alternative to random HK farming
The level of frustration I—and many other players—have experienced lately is quite high. I truly hope this feedback gets heard and that steps are taken to make battlegrounds enjoyable again for everyone, whether they queue solo or as a team.
Thank you.
