Did you know that originally there were only PvE servers?
And that when they created PvP servers, PvE servers were called Normal, therefore PvP ones being Abnormal?
If you choose to play when it's happening you also automatically choose to participate.
No rocket science involved.
You're not being forced when, as mentioned, you can take the day off.
