GearScoreLite TBC: The Definitive Fix for Onyxia

    Hey everyone,

So, if you're like me and playing TBC on a 3.3.5a client (shoutout to my fellow Warmane players!), you've probably felt the pain of using GearScoreLite. It's a fantastic addon, but let's be honest—it was built for Wrath of the Lich King, and it just butchers TBC gear.

I can't be the only one who cringed seeing a glorious epic from Sunwell get scored like a random leveling blue, right? Or when loot from the level 70 Onyxia raid had a completely bizarre score? It was a constant headache.

I've seen some decent attempts to fix it over the years. Some were simple ports to the 2.4.3 client, and others tried to slap a patch on the WotLK version. But something always felt... off. The scoring never truly captured the real gear progression of The Burning Crusade.

That's why I decided to roll up my sleeves and build my own version from the ground up, and I wanted to share it with you all.

So, what makes this different from the other "fixes" out there?

Most versions I found felt like temporary solutions. They either used a clunky two-tier system for item levels (just "high" and "low") or were still bloated with WotLK code like Death Knight logic and heirloom calculations. The biggest issue was that gear from Karazhan would often score the same as gear from Black Temple, which just isn't right.

My take on it is a complete rebuild, designed purely for TBC.

    Here’s what I focused on:

The real problem was that other versions treated TBC like an afterthought. Instead of trying to patch WotLK logic, I built a scoring system that understands how gear actually progresses through TBC's different phases.

My version uses a detailed 6-tier system that reflects the journey we all took through the Dark Portal:

    • Pre-Raid & Heroics (ilvl 105–115): Your starter epics from heroic dungeons, crafting, and hard-earned reputation rewards.
    • Phase 1: T4 Raids (ilvl 110–127): Karazhan, Gruul's Lair, and Magtheridon's Lair.
    • Phase 2 & 4: T5 Raids & Zul'Aman (ilvl 128–141): Serpentshrine Cavern, The Eye, the Amani War Bear runs, and all that badge gear.
    • Phase 3: T6 Raids (ilvl 141–151): Mount Hyjal and Black Temple—this is where items like the Bristleblitz Striker finally get the respect they deserve.
    • Phase 5: Sunwell Plateau (T6.5) (ilvl 154–164): The absolute pinnacle of TBC loot.
    • Pre-TBC Content (ilvl <105): Handled separately so it doesn't mess with the main TBC scores.

    Latest Update (Version 4.0.5):

    CRITICAL FIX:

    • FIXED: T4/T5 Scoring Inversion Issue
      • Extended T4 item level range from 110-120 to 110-127
      • Resolves issue where T5 items (Nordrassil Chestguard, ilvl 133) scored lower than T4 items (Chestguard of Malorne, ilvl 120)
      • Items at ilvl 120-127 now properly assigned to T4 tier instead of falling between T4 and T5
      • Ensures proper scoring progression: T5 items now consistently score higher than T4 items

The result is a clean, pure TBC experience. No more strange scoring issues caused by leftover code from another expansion.
