Battlegrounds - Serious Problem That Needs Attention

    Hey everyone,

I’ve been playing on Icecrown for quite a while now, on both Horde and Alliance sides. I’ve leveled up several characters and played in countless battlegrounds, but lately there’s been a major issue that’s making the PvP experience frustrating and honestly unfair.

Battleground matchmaking seems completely random when it comes to gear. There’s no gear-based balance at all. For example, right now I’m playing a Horde character that’s in full green gear, and I constantly get matched against Alliance players who are fully geared in Relentless/Furious with heroic weapons. It’s not just once in a while this happens in nearly every BG.

To be clear, I’ve also played on the Alliance side and had the exact same problem in reverse. Low-geared Alliance players are getting matched against heavily geared Horde teams. It just doesn’t make sense and it ruins the experience for everyone, especially for new players or those gearing up.

Yesterday, I played around 62 battlegrounds on my Horde character. We won only 3 of them. Today, I’ve done 9 BGs so far and haven’t seen a single win. The main issue isn’t coordination or strategy, it’s that Alliance players are out-gearing us by a huge margin, making it impossible to compete.

This gear gap creates a completely one-sided experience. Players who are trying to gear up through PvP are being discouraged from even playing because they’re constantly being farmed by max-geared opponents. That’s not fun for anyone.

I’m not asking for miracles, but I really think it’s time to consider implementing some kind of gear-based matchmaking in battlegrounds. Whether it’s brackets, matchmaking adjustments, or any other system, this issue needs to be addressed. Right now, low-geared players are stuck in a cycle where they can’t win, can’t get honor effectively, and can’t enjoy PvP.

Please seriously consider fixing this problem. I know this server has a huge PvP community and this could make the experience much better for everyone—new players and veterans alike.

Thanks for reading. Let’s make PvP fun and fair again.

There is nothing to do about it. You can only get your equipment before entering the bg, entering without it is equivalent to dying instantly.

Take part in Wintergrasp, accumulate honor points and marks to start buying what you think is useful, such as pvp charms for example.
If you have the chance to join in some raids, do it so if you get something for the equipment it will definitely be to your advantage.

Apart from the equipment, as far as the bgs are concerned, cooperation is also needed and without it even the best items will be of help.

Alliance side will ALWAYS have healers since bunch of players will chose to play Human Paladin, most of these paladins are healers.

Imagine if Blood Elf had that Humans racial, most of the time horde would win bgs.

I'm playing a Human Holy Paladin, I have like 10+ wins in a row, as alliance I always have like minimum 2 hears, while horde have 0, I'm using addon to track healers in bgs.

I dont really care if warmane is going something about this because I have many wins in a row in bgs and its fun for me... horde enjoy your gameplay pfhahah

There are technically brackets although I believe they aren't based on an average item level. That's because they didn't want players discovering the cap in the bracket and making twinks. I think another part of it also is based on overpowered items meaning they didn't want players buying a couple super powerful items and competing against weak players. So the match making is based on similarly geared players so long as there are similar players online.

There may be a couple gray areas in that system that could create the situation above. One of them is that you have higher level gear in your bags or bank even if it's PvE gear because it also tracks that. Another issue is if you attained a powerful item somehow it could automatically group you with higher geared players. And finally if you are in complete greens and there is hardly anyone with similar gear then it could match make you with higher gear players so you can even get a queue.

This is somewhat speculation based off when they announced the system. The details may not be the same and may have changed, but I think that's the general idea of it.

The huge gear gap you’re seeing isn’t random matchmaking — it’s because you’re often facing full, stacked premades in nearly every battleground. I’m not talking about small 5-man groups; it’s usually 10- or 15-man premades, and even full 40-man teams in battlegrounds like AV and IoC. These groups farm honorable kills (HKs) 7 days a week, making matches feel one-sided and unfair.

Even if you join a premade yourself, unless you’re a veteran with tons of HKs and top gear, you’ll still be on the losing side. When 2 fully stacked, fully geared premades meet each other, they might fight once or twice, but as soon as one loses, they leave and go back to farming undergeared or casual players.

When a premade leaves mid-match, confused players like you fill the spot - only to get farmed or punished with deserter for leaving. So basically you are left with 2 choices: either grind for months (being farmed) or buy a geared character to get into a premade, and become a "farmer" yourself.

Once in a while, maybe once a month, you might get lucky and play a normal fair battleground. But by what I’ve seen, this isn’t going anywhere soon. The common response? “Deal with it.” As a suggestion, you might want to queue and listen to music or watch something on a second monitor while you slowly farm honor by being farmed.

Unfortunately that’s the reality right now.

You're spreading false information to new players. Players in full green gear aren't getting matched up with the so called higher level bracket of players. The graveyard camping meta and premade HK farm you're describing is associated with the higher bracket. And honestly if you don't like it then reroll a new toon and play in the lower bracket or go play on the TBC realm. Quite honestly though you're exaggerating.

You're missing the point. No one claims fresh greens get insta-matched vs full stack premades but eventually, they do. I play daily on premades, on multiple chars, most days farming over 2500 HKs a day and having over 150k overall.

A friend joined warmane recently, 3k GS AH gear. Complete newbie, bought naked char with no hks. Warned him we shouldn’t queue together.First few days he was fine, even happy. 4 Days later, Im on same team with him. He is 4.4gs now, (donated hc wep). I've joined the BG with 5 man full stack premade, all are hard PvPers and we are against 10 man in WG. Guess what, next 3 games he is still on our team. Barely knows his spells, barely knows the game, barely has any gear.

Oh and right, your solution is “just reroll a new toon or go play TBC”. Because obviously the fix for broken matchmaking is to throw away your progress and start over every time you get farmed. Genius. Maybe next you'll suggest uninstalling the game as a long-term solution?

Your friend is in the high bracket now because he has an HC weapon and whatever else they're using that is end-game in comparison to the low bracket.

You are wrong, that is the topic, and yes they are.

Then you own an item that is overpowered for the bracket. The system has checks to prevent people from queuing with low gear and then changing once inside.

Well the problem is I started a new char on horde side with no HC item and no HE item, full green/blue with 14k HP xD
why do I have to face a +5k BG group when I'm green ?

What is the name of your new character? Feel free to send it to me in a PM if you don't want it to be public.
