    Warlocks and haste

Hi there, Im relatively new to locks and I´ve seen a number of highly geared locks playing with very high amounts of Haste (1100 or more). I can understand the intention, the more casts you can get off the more big numbers you can see, how ever Im wondering if its a wasted stat up till a certain point. Point in question... with out changing gems I can have between 752 Haste, 812 Haste, 922 Haste and 982 haste.

The caste times on my main damaging spells remain the same from 752 haste all the way up to 922 haste.
    Immolate 1.2 sec cast time
    Incinerate 1.8 sec cast time
Chaos Bolt 1.6 sec cast time

At 982 Haste it gets a fraction faster
    Immolate 1.2 sec cast time
    Incinerate 1.7 sec cast time
Chaos Bolt 1.5 sec cast time

So I'm hoping some knowledgeable Locks out there might be able to answer if its even worth stacking this haste or should I just be going for Spell power from 752 Haste, or should I be trying to go higher than 982 haste?

Is there any formula to work out how low in haste I can be to get the same cast times Im already getting now at 752 haste, and could therefore be putting in more Spell power.

Im really only looking at this for PvP, but any knowledge on Haste for locks would be helpful thanks.

You're right, haste is less valuable for destro pvp, spell power is much better. The only haste you should be getting is from the wrathful offset, ashen ring, weapons (depending on your choice) and if you have an end game trinket (Charred twilight scale).
Any yellow sockets you have, providing you want the socket bonus, should always be an orange gem with spell power + haste/hit/resil. Red sockets should always be pure spell power.

You may see some warlocks stacking full haste, probably because their off spec is affliction, where haste is extremely valuable and you can never get enough of it.

    Thanks for the piece of mind. They were actually destro locks and they said the MORE haste the better, they were rocking over 1100. Another had messaged me this;

Spell Haste increases your Spell Casting Speed by 100% meaning you cast twice as fast makeing the Spell cast in half the time.
    New Casting Time = (Base Casting Time)/(1 + (% Spell Haste / 100))
    or
    Haste Needed at 80 = ((Base Casting Time / Desired time) - 1 ) x 32.79 x 100
So for Arcane Blast to be a 1 second cast we would plug in the numbers:
    ((2.5/1) - 1 ) x 32.79 x 100 = 4918.5 haste rating.

But it doesnt seem to work, at least for locks, as the values I got didnt match with what I was seeing.

Another person told me that spell cast times are actually rounded up or down too, so that 1.84 - 1.80 cast time will be 1.8 in game and 1.85 - 1.89 will be 1.9 sec cast time.

Im gonna leave that all up there incase others are curious about haste.

Regardless I followed your advice and dropped to just under 700 haste and have the same cast times but way more spell power and crit and am seeing some nice big +10k numbers quite frequently.

haste is generally the best because you also want to lower your GCD down to 1 second.

BUT the main reason so many warlocks stack haste upwards to 1100 and such, is because theres not much else to stack. when i had a warlock (gone since the wipe) i had 3400 spell power no procs and like 1100 or so haste (and 1200 res). my normal arena set took away one of the haste trinkets and took up a trinket that gave ~200 spell power, so i shot up to 3600.

moral of the story is you only really need 3 stats. Spellpower, Res and Haste. i gemed mostly for spellpower, geared for haste then got atleast 1 haste trinket so id have atleast over 850 haste. (which btw the highest my spell power ever got was like 3799 with 750 haste, i still prefered more haste tho).

if you gear and gem properly you can easily net decent res with high spellpower and haste. (tho u really dont need over 900ish so stacking to 1100 is a bit obsessive even for an aff lock, goin to 1100 haste is kinda stupid. spellpower is a big deal to them as well)
