1. WotlK - Mage Frost vs Mage Frost

Hi guys, I took more than four years playing wotlk a frost mage and I find it hard to defeat another frost mage against all other classes I do well but against frost not... if somebody can give me some tips will thank

  2. WOTLK? Abuse Spell Steal, Spell Steal alot. Make sure you're using Mage Armor. Try to land your Counterspell on his Frost spells, and try to bait your opponent's counterspell with your fire spells (a random Scorch when you know he has Counterspell off cd) or just by fake-casting Frostbolt if you have good latency.

More importantly, try to prevent him from healing up with a full (glyphed) Evocate - and try to avoid getting YOUR own Evocate get interupted :3 Pretty gamebreaking.

Remember that any damage done is damage that can't be healed back (other than Evocating), so if you can't hardcast in confidence, just Ice Lance away.

I should first say that Frost mage Vs Frost mage is fairly RNG at times so you will not always have a good strat to perma win BUT.

first, you want too avoid using your CS for as long as you can. randomly interupting any spell of his is a dumb idea and will **** you over in the long run.

Second, you want to force his CS asap. tbh it doesnt really matter if you get interupted in the frost or fire tree with it (or if you fake it) just do one of em. early game you can force a CS simply by hard casting frost bolts and never faking, he'll eventually interupt you and thats what you want. if youve done almost no dmg to him you can just poly him for the duration of the lock out and just spellsteal his buffs as you wait (otherwise you risk getting interuptedi n the arcane tree, which means he may force your block and you dont want that when he has 0 DR on poly). after that you start to dps, you make sure you spam your best burst during that CS downtime window of his. if you feel he's doing some real dmg to you then you interupt but its prefered if you can save CS for evo.

third, Do not just trinket anything. it doesnt matter if he's clearing your buffs. let him you can always just poly him right after and do the same. save trinket for something that could kill you or when hes evoing.

fourth, dont worry about being the first to poly in the opener. as stated in the #3 its best to be the last to do it so that you actually get the buffs back.

fifth, if your CS is down, and hes EVOing. poly then instantly fireblast him. it acts as a quick interupt (works in arena as well). you can also DF him if needed

sixth, do not just blindly spam spellsteal. you dont "have" to get his ice barrier. it helps for sure but you can just burst it down if needed.

and lastly, dont spam ice lance... your best bet is too spam either frost bolts and shatters OR scorch. using Just lance even with FoF will be easily negated by a single barrier or ward. but a shatter will break the barrier or ward without question. if they have no barrier but have frost ward up you can just spam Scorch to negate some of there defenses. 9/10 the mage that wins a fight, is the one who burst's properly. and wasting your time spamming ice lance gives the other guy more time to dmg you. Frostbolt spam is life, spam it like you want it in side of you. Only the inexperienced mages will spam lance for dmg or be defeated by lance spammers. aim higher.
