    tanking on lordaeron

How do you deal with this? It's particularly hard because of the dmg buffs. At Anub in nax or Emalon I die in less than half a minute. I've been simply kicked out of 2 nax10s because of that. Other bosses are tankable but some have just too big damage.

here's my gear http://armory.warmane.com/character/...daeron/summary Should I powerlevel JC to get the stam trinket? Should I use the on use 3k hp trinket?

does it help much to get to 550def?

If you feel the damage you get is too big why would increasing your avoidance improve the situation? Just reach 540 defense to be uncrittable.

What you should probably do is to increase your EH:
    1. Switch metagem to http://wotlk.openwow.com/item=41380
    2. Try using more stamina gems instead of defense rating gems
    3. Change shoulder enchant to http://wotlk.openwow.com/item=44957
    4. Change def enchants to stamina/armor (shield, back)
    5. Change your boots enchant to 22 stami (you have charge, etc speed boost is not essential imho)

Step 2-3-4: Keep doing that so you are just above 540 (or 538 with the pvp shoulder ench).

If you would like to have more avoidance gem for parry or dodge (keep in mind the ~1,88 ratio rule).

Ugh, going for avoidance on a realm where bosses have increased damage is counter-intuitive and I don't know why you are doing that.

Wrath of the Lich King has always been about EHP anyway, so just make sure to have 540 defense and then go full EHP in any way possible. Use stamina on shield, use stamina gems on every socket, unless the socket bonus is stamina and it's only one non-blue gem. Forget about avoidance, it won't save you when the boss can 2-shot you

There are some encounters (with many adds -> lower dmg, multiple times) where going for avoidance can be a good idea, but usually this role is filled by paladins, because they are able to reach the unhittable status with Holy Shield. As a warrior (and for every MT) you should focus on EH as taralej mentioned.

Aggathon's post on Tankspot explained the whole EHP story, unfortunately it is gone now (here is a webarchive link: http://web.archive.org/web/201311301...g-mechanics%29)

Do you still gem for 6stam socket bonuses?

What do you think about trinkets? would it be really costly to get 400JC for it? what should I use?

so there's nothing special with the 550 thing. My gm told me to hit 550 but he doesn't believe me it's not some sort of extra cap.

my enchs and gems are from the period when i was still working on reaching 540. I will rework them when I get a ring upgrade in a day or two ( the valor vendor one instead of my ring with no def at all)

You can do that @endgame. Bad idea at start. And its ussually agi + stam gems in reds (agi gives armor, so it might actually give more EHP vs some bosses). Or expertise + stam/hit + stam if you are lacking threat.

Not worth it imho. JWC offers you 3 extra stam over mining, and armor from eng is best thing you can get. Only consider it instead of mining if you plan to dps someday. You can get decent trinket in toc 5man (not sure if its open at Loard yet though).

was thinking to keep engi and just replace mining

theres no toc yet.. no 30stam shoulder thing either i think

    http://wotlk.openwow.com/item=44957 should be available.

If you are planning to have a PvE dps offspec it might be a good idea to reroll to JC + BS later.
But only do that if you don't have trouble getting gold... gold is much more important in the beginning. Being able to buy an ilvl200+ item instead of an ilvl200 one provides much more bonus than the difference between profession perks.

Eng > bs for both dps (haste on use hands/nitro boots) and tank (armor hands). And jwc > bs since it just gives more stats (42 vs 40 arp or str / 63 vs 60 stam). But ye, make sure you have enough money first.

yeah i also have a 3.7k gs fury set

im thinking of replacing engi ( not mining) with JC for the stam stacked crab trinket. That with the gossamer should help me avoid getting 2 shot on certain bosses. Im currently at 30k hp ( without reworking gems and enchs).

The thing is that armor from eng might actually give you more EHP, than stamina you would get from switching to jwc.

What is your armor/hp exactly (fully buffed)? How much does the boss hit you for?

I also noticed that you are currently using mongoose - while weapon enchants don't matter much, in your situation Blood draining might be better.

hp 25man buffs like 38-39k. I dont remember armor, unbuffed 24k

i remember emalon doing like 30k and anub 25. 2shotted cuz lordaeron has like 2-3x the normal dmg. I hear warrior tank is kinda broken becuz of that and ppl prefer palas and druids.

K, so lets count with 26k armor fully buffed.

    26 000 armor -> 60.983% reduction
25 145 armor -> 60.184% reduction (without armor gloves enchant)

    You are being hit for 30 000 into 26k armor -> boss hits for: 76 889,56 pre-mitigation.
You would be hit for 31 410 without eng gloves enchant.

Armor eng enchant is worth over 100 stamina for you - if you count with single hit, but since it reduces every-hit you take you can count it at least twice (its worth way over 200 stamina).

The thing with armor is: the higher the boss hits the better it gets, and since Loard dmg is so amplyfied it will be even better there.

Are you able to farm EoT on Loard yet? If so get armor trinket.

    - armor trinket is not available yet (Ulduar is in progress)
    - keep engi as jendah suggested and drop mining (after having about 10k++ gold)
    - armor is the best stat for (melee) EH but stamina affects magical + bleed dmg as well so it depends on the encounter which is more useful (but again usually armor is harder to "get" so this should be your focus!)
    - 39 hp should be enough to tank whole Naxx25, if Patchwerk doesn't kill you then no other boss should... blame your healers :) (I mean mainly the holy paladin)!
    - the reason why paladins and DKs are preferred: they can take more dmg than a warrior without healing and using CD-s (ardent defender, will of the necropolis)
    - the reason why druids are preferred: their EH is generally higher then the other tanking class (but their avoidance is lower)
    - unfortunaltely the way lordaeron works warrior is a little bit in a disadvantage (usually they fill the role of an OT because the raid needs the HP shout + they are really great against caster mobs where you should interrupt)

followme86 made some very good points. Indeed on a realm with increased damage warriors are at a disadvantage. Palas have higher avoidance than warriors and with Ardent Defender also higher potential EHP. DKs too have higher potential EHP and they have self-heals, which they can time to reduce the load from healers. Bears are the tanks with the highest EHP on WotLK, so naturally they will be preferred right now.

And then we have warriors, who are sitting in the middle with neither the best avoidance nor the best EHP. Basically, if u get bad luck and 2 hits in a row - you die as a warrior. So to compensate u just have to focus as much as possible on EHP, favouring armor over HP as jendah said, and cooldown rotation. Get armor on cloak, armor on gloves, armor wherever possible, and then go for stamina. I'd gem +6 bonuses ONLY if it's a red gem, to which I'd put Agi + Stamina. I don't see a reason to gem yellow ones once you're over the def cap, unless if it's a +9/12 bonus, but these only come on chest, legs and head slots.

And no, 550 defense is not a "special cap" or anything. Whoever told you that knows **** about tanking.
