I know this was something that was possible in retail, but I'm curious if anyone knows if it is possible for Lordaeron.
There's a few names I've been keeping my eye on, that I'm almost positive are on inactive characters. They do no appear in the armory, so they are low level, and they have not been active for at least a couple of months, as I have them added to my friend's list and have not seen them on my main character, and they have not responded to any in-game mail.
I ask here and am not yet submitting a ticket, because the ticket will likely take a few days to get answered.

Warmane Staff does this when they deem necessary, they do not need suggestions for that. On top of that, if that's a char of a premium member, pretty sure it won't get deleted.

The longest i had to wait for a ticket response was something close to 25 hours the shortest 5 minutes, so don't worry you wont have to wait 4-5 days, as to the character deletion, I have no idea what their policy is, I guess they will refuse your request just because thats the easiest answer from their point of view, but this doesnt mean you shouldn't try

Lets say someone has a lvl 1 bank character and you like his name. Should that person lose his name to you ? If yes, why ? Would it be fair for him ? If yes, why ? Or maybe someone has more than 1 account but is more focused on one account / main character and until he finishes what he wants to achiev, he won't play his other characters. Maybe he wants achievs which are harder to get and take some time. Like before, should he lose his names to you ? If yes, why ?

If an account gets perma banned, do the names / characters get deleted ? If not, then in that case, yeah, free the names from accounts that have been perma banned.

So ... why should you get someone's bank alt name or someone's character name who is focused on main and will start playing on alts after he gets what he wants on main ?

Tickets with just questions are usually answered within a day, while reports can take a couple more days. That's my experience at least.
The response I got was that they don't plan on freeing up any names unless they do a database clean-up.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll probably open a ticket now anyway to make sure, but don't expect it to happen. I was wanting a slightly quicker response because it would determine what class I chose when a friend and I rerolled some alts (I've already gone ahead assuming I don't get the name thanks to your feedback). All of my past tickets have taken 2+ days to be answered, so that's what informed my time frame, but perhaps this will be quicker.
I'm not trying to take the name from an active character, I agree that that would be unfair. But if the account and character have been inactive for months, which the staff can easily determine, it does not seem unfair to release that name. I was never asking to take a name from a character that was in use.

Again, define "months". I for one have more than one account and right now, i'm more focused on one character from one account because i want a certain pvp achiev that is a little harder to get. I only log my other accounts from time to time to vote, create items if i need or sell stuff in AH. I'm pretty sure i have a character that wasn't on for at least 1 or 2 months because i don't have professions or any use for him at the moment. Should i lose that name ? Why ? Who is to say i won't log on it after i finish my achiev on my main ?
"a name from a character that was in use" ... as i said above, i have a character that i think i did not log for at least 1 month. Would you say it's not in use and i should lose my name ?

I'm 100% positive that proterean said before the realm was released that anyone after 3 months who were not level 10 would be deleted. I don't think he or warmane stood by there word on that because many of us cookie members never got our name back after they were deliberately taken. not that it matters to us anymore as we have moved on.

I'm not sure why you're so scrutinous about this, it's a pretty basic feature. I've been watching the name for somewhere around 3 months, maybe 2 and a half, I haven't really kept track of the time exactly.
I'm not the one making the call to release the name, I am merely asking a GM, based on circumstantial evidence that the character (or possibly the account) seems inactive, if they are in fact inactive. And then, if by Warmane standards, they deem that name releasable, if then they would do so. I'm not trying to change the rules or steal names.
And by the way, I did get a pretty quick response saying that they don't do it by request, and that it seems like names are released in waves when they clean out inactive accounts or characters (whenever that might be, I don't know). I'm fine that they don't do it, I just wanted to know.Edited: July 18, 2016

"clean out inactive accounts or characters (whenever that might be, I don't know)" ... i think they are talking about perma banned accounts or accounts that have not logged at all in a long time.

I don't think you are fully reading my posts, because I am not trying to dictate under what circumstances a name should be released, just whether or not that is something that is done on Lordaeron.

I suppose since they won't release it I don't have to worry about anyone else taking it :p
I was trying to get the name Lazybones for a Female Forsaken, any class really, ended up going with Death Knight and naming it something different.
