shadow priest viable in pve?

I've little experience with 80's content and raiding but i love my shadow priest. I've caught a couple posts about top dpsers and heard nothing of the shadow priests ability to keep up with other dps. is it possible to be a contending dpser in endgame raids or am I just a mana/heath battery at that point?

I can get top 5 on my priest but the only time I'm 1st/2nd is when other people are slacking. I end up at around 19k in most 25 man raids and 16k in 10 depending on buffs, give or take 1-2k. If you actually raid with an unholy dk then you'll push even more, too bad no one wants to play one. You wont be the best but at least you aren't competing with ele shamans.

If big dick dps is your goal, then shadow priest probably isn't the class for you. Shadow priesting is more about utility and survivability than pushing out those pretty numbers.

As pointed out by Sixtyninee, you'll often find yourself surprised by just how well you can fair in a raid against melee classes that should technically be beating you.

The art of multi-dotting will play a bigger factor on fights with multiple targets if you really want to get the most out of your overall damage. Just remember one thing, a dead dps does no dps and as a shadow priest you will always have that advantage over most melee classes.

thanks all for the info. I will continue to rock out the SPriest, as healing doesn't suit my A.D.D.. also almost any headpiece looks good in shadowform. in the end that's all that matters. :)
