You purchased an Alliance only item for a Horde character. Make a ticket asap to try and get it corrected. They may help you with it if much time has not passed.
Next time pay attention to the symbols next to some items, some have a horde insignia and some alliance, this means they are only available to players of that faction, normally. SO when you obtain them through the shop they will give you the same error you got with the robes.
Also you are posting this in the wrong section. Those robes are only available on the Icecrown shop and you posted in the Lordaeron section of the forums ;)Edited: October 10, 2016

i should've specified where i got this, i got it from TOC25, it wasnt a purchase.
EDIT: it was a drop i rolled for and i won it, on lordaeron server also. why would alliance items drop on a horde raid?Edited: October 10, 2016

Just appened at me too, i've won 3 pieces in Toc10 and i can't equipped, in ticket Gm told me "check on bugtracker gnegnegnegne"

Ah, I think here comes the old trouble again.. I honestly think it is because they didn't have any horde players testing ToC, so they forgot that there are multiple faction-specific items.
I hope they sort this out. Bumpie.

I posted it at the bugtracker but I would not want to wait a month for this to get fixed. I have the same problem on the ally side.

As far as I know the bosses dropped the normal amount of Horde loot, and in addition the same amount of Alliance loot, so basically you just got unlucky if your item dropped on the wrong faction. There was no "extra" loot since you can't use it anyway.
