Hello all,
I've seen it happen on other servers. Inactive character will get a name wipe.
That makes active players able to rename in a name that was previously taken.
Personally im pissed off by all the names that have been taken by people who probably wont play the server ever again.
If you can provide this service then I won't think it's weird to charge more for a rename since you provided a good thing for u and we provide coins back.
Looking forward to any reactions.

not if it's on a premium account you won't. we're exempt from cleanups.

premium accounts or not, i think xx years (maybe 3?) inactive accounts could get name wiped.. not their characters, just their names... that would leave some room for new characters to get some names that havent been seen in a long time. lets be honest, finding an apropiate name that isnt taken these days is a fate of strenght itself...

We're not exempt from cleanups as premium, no matter what anyone tells you. It actually seems to work like Bakkhos said, just names are reset, not characters deleted.
I had a bunch of inactive level 1 characters with random names flagged for renames, but the characters are still there. Not sure when it happened, but it was at least 2-3 months ago.
Maybe you have to ticket for a particular name? Not sure.

when ragnaros and deathwing were merged a lot of characters got flagged for rename since both realms had toons with the same name. first to log in got to keep the name.
although after re reading the premium benefits it does say "Exclusion from database cleanups of inactive accounts", doesn't specically mention our names are safe as i thought it did.

This was on Lordaeron, not Icecrown. Nothing to do with the merge.
Good find though, that it doesn't mention names in the benefits.

Anyone with a character under level 10 ( doesn't show in armoury ) or if the player is a dk check the in game time. Or even check last day the account was logged in. Delete them from DB regardless of premium or not, that's it should be. I'd give sacrifices of my characters saved names for some of these names I wanted.

I rely that if I don't log 6 months my characters will still be there. Part of why I donated.
About names - deal with it. Why should any other person suffer inconvenience because your personal stuff?
I believe point of such cleanup is not names, but technical problems that can arise.

Simple as that. I use same name on every other server except warmane, because that name is taken here by some level 1-10 idk level cus it doesnt show up in armory ( for already 1 year+ ). And I asked GM-s they said they can't delete that level 1 character. I know there is lot of same people with problem like mine, so best solution is to wipe all characters under level 10 that haven't logged for 8 months.

We hold inactivity wipes when the database requires it, not to "free" names. We also do not force renames on characters barring circumstances like the name being purposefully offensive or inappropriate in some language, during merges when a name "moving in" is already taken, when the name is too similar to Staff names, when the names were acquired solely to try to "sell" them later, etc. Premium accounts aren't exempt from those cases, but that aside they still are supposed to keep their names along with being immune to clean ups.
You might find it "unfair" that someone has a name you like, but as far as we are concerned the name belongs to whoever got it first, not to you because it's the name you always use or whatever other reason.
