All arena items should be obtainable through 3v3 or 5v5 ONLY.
Its pretty simple why i have this idea. Because 3v3 and 5v5 is dead. Those people who wants gear should be forced to play 3v3 or 5v5 and for arena points farm(90% of the server play only 10 games per week)people can play 2v2.

Altho this would increase 3s activity, staff will NEVER implement this for 2 reasons:
a) It's not Blizzlike
b) Even unbalanced, 2v2 is pretty good way to spend time, so...
c) It's questionable as to how much would it actually increase 3s activity

PS: I could understand 3v3 suggestion, but 5v5? Really?

I doubt it, lots of players doing arena are bis, or very close, but that's me...

Blizzard never had problem with 3v3 or 5v5 que's, so they never had reason to change it. There is much more things that are not blizzlike so its pretty lame to use that excuse here and now.. :D And I belive most of the people dont know that you can get more points in 3v3 and 5v5 then 2v2. Playing 2v2 its not even fun comparing it to 3v3 and thats not just me. For example Wow tournamets are not in 3v3 format without reason. I think there is no bad side of this change, even with this change, people can continue playing 10 games per week for 200 arena points in 2v2.

This would only further the gear gap between donors and non-donors. It would increase the 3s activity for sure, although probably not to the degree that you think. Most people play 2v2 because it's the most casual bracket, and you only have to find one other person to play with. It would alienate fresher level 80s from attempting arena because they would struggle even more to get gear and find people who actually wanted to play with them.

How do you know what 9% of the server does, much less 90? You joined last week.

Nobody plays 3s here, nobody played 3s on AT, nobody will continue to play 3s because nobody cares about scripted pvp with bugs and unlimited access to bis pve trinkets.

And most people above 1800 are full geared. (not that you'll ever be 1800 lol)

This is an unbelievably ill-thought solution to a problem that can be very easily resolved by increasing the rewards with more regular flushes (with a lower point yield per flush to compensate for increased regularity), [2-3x] greater point yield compared to 2v2 as well as frequent tournaments or events related to the game type.

Additionally, if you sever 2v2 you'll just make all arenas inactive. It's much easier to get one person for 2v2 compared to two people for 3v3. Not only that but you would essentially guarantee that the only people in 2v2 are geared people since they don't need the points, they'll just go for rating.

If something is not popular the solution needs to be incentive based. Sweeten the deal rather than making every other deal sour. Shops don't encourage you to buy a single product by making every other product in the shop more expensive.
Instead they make that specific product cheaper or add a bonus deal to it (get more for the same price, buy one get one free, etc) to increase demand.

I'm being polite by even calling this a "solution".

I respect your attempt at trying to fix an ongoing problem with 3v3 but this really isn't it.

Tier 2 for 2500 2v2 rating

9 teams sitting above 2k in 3v3 atm, and season is going to end soon.
I completely undrestand though why this will never be done. No point sawing off the branch you're sitting on.

Not sure if its possible but maybe you could make 3v3 flush twice a week above lets say 1700 smh. So it wont be completely cut off.

Reviving 3s in icecrown is like somewhat me digging up my dead dog and giving it CPR.
