I want to roll a Tank character, right now i'm playing a Disci/Holy Priest.
My idea was to roll a Warrior tank, but some of my friends in game told me that right now Warrior isn't great as tank (especially for ICC) and it is almost the least choice for a Raid Group. Is that true?
Also, if is possibile, i would like to know about the other tanks as well, how they are doing right now etc.
Here's the thing. Warrior is, in my opinion, the least desirable tank. Other tanks are more survivable (Paladin, Druid) or have better gimmick builds for cheesing certain mechanics (DK).
But is Warrior bad? Nah. Are they viable? Absolutely. No one is going to ask for a tank in a pug and go "oh you're a warrior, never mind, we want another class" - and if they do you wanna avoid that raid group.
My recommendation is to either watch some simple videos about playing a tank and pick the one that looks desirable to you, or whichever one sounds sweet as ****, or whichever one has the better offspecs. Every tank class is viable even at the highest levels of play.
Warriors require a bit more situational awareness and skill cap because they don't have a failsafe to prevent death like Paladins do (Ardent Defender). You have to actually activate Last Stand yourself, which means you have to know the encounters and know when Big Damage (TM) is coming so you can prevent yourself from dying.
Warriors were without doubt the worst-off tanks this expansion, but like everyone has said, they are absolutely viable all the way through heroic RS25.
"Warrior isn't great as tank (especially for ICC) and it is almost the least choice for a Raid Group. "
just another prejudiced person..
yes.. pala tanks are easier to play and have fail safes.
but warrior tanks are nowhere " not a great tank" if you somehow predict the incoming damage and know when to pop cds.. you should be okay with it..
and yeah..
Highly advise not to pick protection warrior as your first tank on this expansion, ever. It is the weakest of all tanks and requires great amount of work and mechanics to make sure you're on par with other classes.
Paladin is the ideal first tank ever, followed by DK and druid.
Who has been Feeding Non-sense about warrior being Bad-*** sucker kind of tank ? I love warrior all times because he has so much potential to mitiagte damage with so many CD's.
Shield Block
Doubles your shield block value. And increses your block chance by 100%.
Surprisingly strong. Guarantees to reduce incomming hit by at least almost 5k or almost 10k when critical block occurs. LK hits for 30-40k depending on Necrotic Plague Stacks. -> 12%/25% - 18% on average physical damage reduction for 10s. I am using this together with Bloodrage and trinket as defensive for every second Soul Reaper.
Bloodrage (4t10)
Shield equal to 20% of your current max hp.
In my opinion significantly stronger than Enraged Regeneration. Since this hp comes instantly and not as a hot. Pop this whenever you get below 50%, unless you need it for something else.
Stacks with Last Stand.
Shield Wall
Your strongest Defensive cooldown. But you have to use it before you expect huge load of damage. Using it after you have dropped too low will not save you.
Last Stand
Increases your max hp by 30% for 20s.
Can be succesfully used both before and after incomming damage spike. Highest probability of saving you when you drop really low.
Enraged Regeneration
30% of your total hp over 10s.
Since its hot, you ussually use this only with conjunction with other abilities.
Glyph of Shield Slam gives 10% Block whole time which is so more useful.
So many defensive skills..... and warrior sucks ?
His mob control..... stuns ....... disarms........ Sonic Tank titles...... Laid to waste ? I got all the tank classes but damage reduction from WaRR ARE THE BEST.
Warr is the only tank in which i was able to Survive a Buffed VOA fire Boss !!! with low dps and so many def cds i survived a whole time record of 4 Molten Fists ........ the other tank pala just kept dieng who was 5.5k and me a 5.1k warr...... Remember this !!!
Only a warrior tank can solo LK Boss after a druid specially Dwarf warrior race only due to his High armor racial skills.
Prot Warr definitely requires a lot more skill and knowledge of the boss fights and raid mechanics, but once you're geared, and have a good understanding of how it plays, Prot Warr is a blast to play (been playing Warr since Vanilla, and have played the other tanking classes too).
A competent Prot Warr is a good sign that your raid team knows what the heck they're doing ;)
Having said that, do yourself a huge favor, and read the Warr forums here (the Prot warrior guides), learn how to use the macros (makes your life and the other raiders lives a 1000x easier), and watch the Tankspot videos on YouTube for the boss fights that you'll be doing, so you have a good idea of what to expect, and when to expect it.
Don't let anyone dissuade you from playing a Prot Warr. Yes, it's the most challenging / skill-capped tank in the game, but man oh man, when you get good at it, it's a freakin BLAST to play :)
(Not to mention, Prot Warr PvP is fun as hell too ;) )
