Coins are rewards you get for donating to support the server. Coins can be used to purchase gear, characters, mounts, or obtain services like leveling professions, changing factions, instant level 80, etc. Also donating even the minimum amount will get make your account premium which means you bypass queue - worth it just because of that in my opinion.
