1. hacker or bad gm?

So 2 hours ago somebody in the Netherlands - or tunneling through - attempted to hack into the google account I'm using to register and play on Warmane. Funny thing is that I'm ONLY using it for this, it's not used anywhere else nor listed anywhere on the web.

So my question is, who is the culprit?

Somebody here has intentionally looked up my email and attempted to hack it. It's not any user error on my part. I only ever wrote that email when creating it and creating my warmane account. I don't list it anywhere, it's not on any mailing lists, it's not used for other logins. It's only here, and only visible to people with access to user data like that. You have an unfaithful servant in your midst.

I'm a fairly paranoid guy. I have sms protection, authenticators, secret questions that nobody in this world except me knows the answer to, the lot. I've grown paranoid over the years. Hacking me is totally possible, but I'm not an easy target. Plus I usually know where the leak originates. And in this case it's somebody here.

  2. Hi Lars,

Inactive accounts are often targeted, happened to me too on a Warmane specific account, but never on any account I frequently use. Change your password, make sure you have your backup email set, you'll be fine :)

  3. Thanks for the reply.

My account isn't inactive, though. And they won't hack into it, no worries there. I use different email and different password on every site I log into. Plus the google authenticator. And sms backup when the origin is a new IP. I get hack attempts all the time, I mean... it's the Interwebz, it's what people do. But I react when it's a "secret" email like this one. Very few have access to viewing it.

  4. And +1 humor for the "Hi Lars" opening, btw. :D
