Wondering how I go about gearing up as I level as its annoying getting destroyed by all of these mobs because my gear is severely under leveled

You can get professions that make gear for your class (eg tailoring for clothers, leatherworking for mail/leather, blacksmithing for platers) and make something for yourself, you'll be getting both items and profession skill.
If you don't want that and have some gold laying around maybe buy some cheap green items from the AH (really cheap ones, a couple of gold maybe).
If you don't want either of those then do a couple of dungeons, you'll probably get an item or two along with some levels and see some vanilla dungeons which aren't that bad looking.

Also, check your spells/abilities, use some defensive abilities if you're about to die, use the CCs like interrupts, fears, stuns and whatever you have to slow their attacks or make them weaker. You can even google leveling guides for your class, guess there has to be some.
