My question is, what I did is considered ninja ????? You queued as tank, therefore you roll on tank items. If you want dps items, queue as dps. However, it's acceptable to queue as tank and then COMMUNICATE with your group saying "Is it okay if I roll for dps items? That's my main spec." and then, with their consent (and a screenshot to protect your ***), you can roll on dps items while queued as tank.

However it's also **** to queue as tank while in dps gear unless you're super geared to the teeth (otherwise it's hard on healers, hard for you to keep aggro, etc.)

But yes, queue as the role you want to roll gear for, it's that simple. You taking a shortcut and doing a terrible job at tanking doesn't let you still roll for DPS.
