They're all solid and viable really. Mage is probably best though due to the many abilities they have.
i always thought mage is the weakest, cant fight hunter, cant fight warlock. But great against rogue and warrior only..
frost mage can fight anything, especially if theyre an engineer. If youre looking for an easy/good 1v1 class, a caster isn't it.

why enginner? is it because of the boot enchance or the glove haste enchant?
And more, you get bombs that incapacitate, parachute for when you get knocked from somewhere or running from someone. Also better potions, those are awesome.
Shaman. Purge, pretty good survivability, prolly does best vs melee out of them, totems op af, can pretty much global someone (lava chain frost shock).
the parachut is irrrelevant since mage can use snowfall without reagent. Overrall those engineering adds are great but its not like mages dont have enough button to push. I am a herbalist and i even forget to use lifeblood due to just too damn many buttons to think of when to pop.
What is pvp? Arenas? Duels? BGs? Without that information this is not a complete question and you will get incomplete answers.
Go ele shammy with tailoring profession (for frostweave trap - 5 sec RANGED root that you throw at the enemy + cloak OP enchant)
- Grounding totem (good vs deathgrip - screws deathknights 100% of the time)
- stoneclaw totem glyphed = shield
- can wield shields = 20k armor (with stoneskin totem), up to 27k armor with "The black hearth" trinket which adds 7k armor each time ur hit by a melee
- heroism even in arenas
- globalling kill 30k full wrath players in 3 seconds (flame shock > lava > chain > frostshock = all hit in the same second)
- if the player doesnt die, pop instant lightning bolt
- elemental overload = lightning bolt / chain l. hits twice like 50% of the time
- AOE root - earthbind totem
- Thunderstorm = skillshot in arenas. if you are in an elevated spot (blades edge bridge, dala arena, or on the tomb in that undercity arena), place yourself between enemy healer and their dps, pop thunderstorm and that way you separate the healer which ends up on one side of the arena and 2 dpses on the other side. then root or hex the healer and nuke 1 dps. No heals for at least 5 seconds guaranteed
- hex CC, which suprisingly everyone forgets about - element of surprise
- if no heal reduction effect affects you, you can heal from 5% to 100% in 3 lesser heals
- instant 40% speed boost with NO CD - ghost wolf - perfect escape vs bladestorm. pop stoneclaw totem and ghost wolf = 0 dmg from stoneclaw
- wind shear = annyoing for evey enemy player, interrupt each 6 secs
For arenas it does depend on the combinations, you'll definitely see all the casters doing well, especially with each other. (Warlock+Shaman, Mage+Priest, etc), So then In terms of best performance, priests are the most common (you can also be a healer and pair with a melee), but my money is on Dlock/Elesham so it's a tie there.
In duels, frost mages definitely the winning vote.
Though, if you're lazy and like simple, easy fun, ele shaman and destro lock requires the least effort to learn to a decent level to duel and win. Spriests have the most things to do (especially when there's so many DKs around), its harder, but they can be as creative and IQ9000plays as frost mages.
In BGs, I find ele shaman and mages the most effective (fire and arcane specs for spread damage and damage output, not frost though - it survives but it's way too slow in a group context) in scoring kills and pushing with your team. Warlocks are great but they aren't that mobile as they lack blink and ghost wolf, and their burst isn't as scary as shamans. Spriests are great for their mind searing in AV, disperse is helpful, sometimes people play them as Holy for the support role, Disc is always appreciated as well, it's great, but more effective as healers than DPSers imo. So in BGs, it's a tie - ele shamans are mad scary, so are arcane mages.
Btw, you forgot another caster - Moonkin.
It's not tier 1 on my lists, but in BGs, they are insanely good and I'll have them in a close 2nd place. Starfall OP.
Well, a BiS geared destro lock deals even more burst dmg than a ele shami but they definitely lack mobility. Beside teleport they have almost nothing to escape from melee opponents but on the other hand due to sl they are also somewhat "tankier" than other caster.
Mage is the only option regardless of what's better. In a server where you find a BiS warrior on every arena you need control, and mages are the only ones that can outrun a warrior, so it's simply mage.
This is best answer, 100% agree.
