Technical Adding my own Addon

I'm testing my own addon in the windows MOP client. There is a ...\Interface\AddOns folder under the wow client folder. Should I just drop my addon folder to it? I tried this but when i started up the client, there was nothing indicating which addons were detected and obviously my addon wasn't responding. What is the specific procedure to add addons to the client and verify that it has been added.

There isn't anything in the game menu showing what addons are detected. I know in the current 8.3 BFA retail client, all the detected addons are listed. I'm not familiar with the old MOP client. Maybe the game menu is different from the current retail client.
