Hey guys, I am your typical Icecrown pleb with a 6.2ish hunter alt and decent mechanics(mostly proper execution of trap mastery and classical rotation in ICCHC). I have however decided to challenge myself in the incoming seasonal realm and pick hunter for the ride.
After making the choice I realised however that I am sorely strapped for information on how to execute hunter at lower gear levels, as such I have several questions:
1) Specialisation
There are currently 2 serious guides that I found in our forum section: Survival and MM for 3.3.5a. However I am aware that BM suffers less from movement par example and is considered by many as an adequate spec. Which of these specialisations do you assume will provide the optimal dps numbers in Naxx, will the movement be ICC level and thus managable within Chimera,Aimed,Arcane or will it be high enough to warrant a spec switch? Assuming MM spec, how will it differ from the generic low ilvl MM spec we use for gearing, will Hawk Eye, Trap Mastery or simillar talents be useful in Naxx?
2) Itemisation
My main qualm is Grim Toll, will an Arp proc trinket permit itemisation similar to that on Icecrown? Which items do you think will be a powerful priority as in Trinkets, Ranged, maybe an armor piece that solves hit cap issues(like festergut boots in ICC)etc. Also what stat priority would you advise considering arp capping will be probably impossible out of a Grim Toll proc? Further will the priority be close enough to permit hybrid gem use like the 10agi 10crit ametrine, or will agility be our end all be all? As an end to the itemisation section: which Tier Set boni do you consider interesting or else powerful enough to warrant prioritising, and ofcourse which ones if any are weak enough to not be worth pursuing.
3) Hunter specific boss mechanics
Are there any interesting hunter specific mechanics simillar to trapping for valks and beasts, MDing VDW worms etc. which will set a good hunter appart from a good RDPs and how would you suggest practicing them or learning them, given that Naxx runs on Icecrown are mostly a bit shorter than the Bloodlust duration.
Thanks in advance for any contribution you guys make to this thread!
1) Marksman should deal maximum damage, survival is totally fine with improved traps, black arrow, etc. Beast mastery is good for leveling and it's bad since pets are still bugged (their damage is bugged, at least that's what other say).
3) I know that some bosses may have a need for tranqualizing shot for you to use against enrage, etc.
I'll run SV for sure. Due to your lower mana pool Aspect of the Viper generates way less mana compared to bis icc gear. SV is just so much more mana efficient and mm too reliant on a hard hitting wep.
Grim Toll is **** unless you can reach arp soft cap with it which is probably impossible with naxx gear. At best doable with really good Ulduar gear where u find more arp on. Regarding the Ametrine: Depends on the gem bonus really. Especially as SV though ill most likely just go full agility.
It's been 11 years since I raided naxx so I dunno what tricks there are :D
I'll prolly not run with Explosive Trap Glyph though as you have rather low crit values at the start. Its real worth shows only in high end content when u have 75% crit chance with buffs. Explosive Shot, Steady Shot and Kill Shot will be the glyphs of my choice.
Its all about keeping expl shot/trap on cd... Expl trap gives u 60% chance to gain LnL compared to BA(30%) on a SINGLE TARGET FIGHTS(and higher with more targets)... Basically u gain 2 expl shots every 24 seconds :) . Good Luck.
