I've noticed that sometimes it is useful to see who the boss is targeting and cast based on that. With my macros built with a targeting option list as follows, you can cast in multiple ways:
1. Priority to not dead friendly target under the cursor - usually healers will keep their cursor over the raid frames anyway, but in a chaotic moment it is sometimes easier to just point at a target on your vision.

2. priority to the target of my target, if it's friendly and not dead. This way you can keep the focus on the boss and if it changes targets, you can keep hitting that heal button and the heals hit the correct target

3. priority to the target. If you're primarily maintank-healing, that's where most of your heals are going anyway.
