My friend is trying to start playing, and everytime so far he has been disconnected within minutes. Nothing particular seems to be causing it that we can tell. Possibly that he was killing boars at the time, but that's not certain.
Do you know how we can troubleshoot this?
We tried adjusting some settings in the options of the launcher screen (wow.exe), but that at best helped him stay on for 5 minutes before another disconnect.
- Turned off Hardware Mouse
- Changed resolution
Server: Frostmourne (WOTLK)
Character: Troll Hunter in starter zone.
PC: Windows 64bit w/ plenty of RAM and such. Easily can handle WOTLK.
Try removing the compatibility setting if it's turned on under WoW.exe -> Properties or try setting it to Windows 7 or something
Try renaming WoW folder to just WoW, if it's named "WoW WotLK 3.3.5a" or anything similar (http://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=343142)
Try flushing DNS
Try removing add-ons and logging in without them
Try opening ports in firewall, same ones as retail:
Thank you for the response. We think it was actually his internet that was acting up. He had some thing called Web Companion that was bogging down his internet. He removed that and was able to stay on Frostmourne for a long while.
