I'm looking for some guidance in terms of server selection. I'm completely green when it comes to WoW - I played on some private server long time ago but it didn't really work out, since it was pretty much empty and I lost all interest. Also, the XP rate was too damn high, I couldn't enjoy casual quest doing, because I quickly became drowned in quests coming from all directions (including the grey ones). Not to mention the dungeons.
I've always been a huge fan of Warcraft 3, but I never got the chance to experience the plot of WoW, especially WotLK. I'm looking for a steady, fun experience focused on PvE, but maybe not too grindy in terms of professions. If there was an option to set the XP from quests and mobs to x1 and the rest to, let's say x3, it would be perfect I think.
Sounds like what you want is Icecrown. Right click on experience bar to set the rate of exp you gain. You can even go 0.5x if you want. Reputation gains and profession rate will still be x3.
Yep, play on Icecrown with a lower exp rate.
Loradaeron has buffed content and so it's not very newbie friendly, same with Frostmourne - I mean buffed 5 mans, like..., Blackrock is custom PvP stuff.
Icecrown is good - normal content, huge population, lots of PuGs for everything, RDF HC queue pops regularly. Just /ignore the awful people and don't get discouraged by getting ganked here and there. The struggle and frustration is part of the fun and the beauty of WoW https://youtu.be/EQraJ0i94TQ?t=2504 keep that in mind :P
