WotLK Suddenly can't join [6. Global] channel to chat?

I'm on Lordaeron and have used the Global chat channel before now on this character. My only character.

I had previously separated Global chat into a new window using the WoW UI (I have NO chat modifying AddOns) because it was a little overwhelming at the beginning while I was getting used to reverting back to pre-Cata gameplay again.

Today I decided to re-merge the Global chat channel into the General chat tab with the others, but now I can't chat in Global at all.

I can read it, so I know I've joined it, but whenever I type "/6 " into the chat bar it doesn't change channel for me. It just does nothing. Like the channel doesn't even exist. But it's right there, scrolling up in my chat window with everyone else's conversations...

Any ideas? (o.O )

Right click on "General" tab of the chat and make sure to set it as "Interactive".

That it is. I even tried making it Non-Interactive and then back to Interactive but it doesn't seem to have made a difference... ( -.- )

It may have been assigned to another number?

Reset the whole chat settings:
open wow folder > "WTF" folder > Account > AccountName > RealmName > Character Name.

Now, delete x2 files:
chat-cache.old
chat-cache.txt

Log your character > join again global channel

I tried all channel numbers from /1. - /10. nothing.. : /

Log your character > join again global channel

I'll give that a go and let you know. Not a method I've come across before. ^_~

(Then again... it's not an issue i've had before, haha!)

Ok that didn't work either...

It doesn't even show up when I go to the Chat tab settings and look at the available channels. [6. Global] isn't even in there... ?!

I mean, it's a GLOBAL channel, it should be usable everywhere except instances, right?

ok, since removing the old chat files, i CAN now join and type in [6. global], but I had to type "/join global" for it to even show up in my channels list... which I had already tried multiple times last night to the point that I just wanted to faceroll my keyboard to see if ANYTHING I pressed made it work...

When I first started this character on a fresh client install, Global was already active because it told me I couldn't chat in it until I was level 7 (?). Then one day I logged on and just lost the ability to even use it.

I dunno... is it a client bug? It's weird, for sure!

no, that "global" channel is a "warmane custom" channel. Anyone need to type /join global.
That is why I have told you to "Log your character > join again global channel" after deleting those x2 files.

Btw, everything is fine now ?

Yes, it's working now, thank you. I edited this post title to [SOLVED] in case anyone else has the same issue.



Just unsure how it happened in the first place... and that niggles me, lol.

It happens periodically to me as well, and WeakAura is the cause. Just disable WeakAura, join global, and then reenable WeakAura.
