Today I was in several Warsong Gulch matches against the same player who has shadowmourne. People in this bracket have a gearscore between 1k and 4.9k. I love that Warmane gives us low geared players our own pvp bracket so we don't get stomped by high geared players but it seems some people like this particular individual love to ruin that.

I was in about 5 different Warsong Gulches against this player. Half of my team would get one shotted by his attacks.
Please Warmane, my suggestion/change is to put shadowmourne users in the higher tier bgs. It's clear this person did his research just so he can be in the BGs with us low geared players and honestly it's just deplorable.

I think the system takes the average item level of a player to determine the BG bracket.
However, there seem to be more factors playing a role because with my starter geared Blackrock char I was always playing in the mid tier BG bracket and after some weeks I was put in the high tier BG bracket even though I didn't acquire any gear.
I assume that the system puts ppl in a higher bracket after they gained a certain amount of honor or maybe GMs are able to move players manually in a higher bracket.

Because 80 BG brackets are due to HKs, not gearscore.

Yeah, I don't think Shadowmourne have any place in lower BG brackets at all. It should be automatic placement to higher brackets.
If you bought it, you should be put to higher brackets, the same treatment you get (or should be getting) if you buy e.g. https://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=50735 or https://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=50732 etc.
And if it was obtained legit (carried) way. Tell me how it wouldn't be extreme case of twinking, after all you're going through multiple ICC 25 HC's, not picking any loot and then be placed to lower bracket because of ... ?
Since Warmane is against twinking in level 80's PvP brackets, no matter which way you obtain Shadowmourne, and do BG's with it, you can't refrain from calling it twinking, or being fair game in lower brackets.

Check his achievements, his character was created in 2020, and yet he already has this gear. It's odd that no one reported it earlier if he had been doing this since then. Maybe he bought the character with Shadowmourne through the Warmane trade system, and something got bugged because of it?

He has only 1600 HKs so seems like he hasn't done that many BGs yet.
However, with my starter geared Blackrock char I was moved from the mid to the high BG bracket when I had around 1700HKs.
Now I'm stucked in the high gear bracket with 5,4k GS and not a single 264 item.

Looks like a alt that got sold after a while with SM and with some BoE's. Bought by somebody for PvP twink purposes.
Alternatively they just didn't play (at least on that specific character) for few years.

People will abuse this the same way they do in RDF to bypass average ilvl restriction.
They will just queue up with furious gear and will swap to full Wrathful + Shadowmourne once inside.

The system takes the gear in your inventory as well as the gear in your bank into account when you queue up.

So if you have Wrathful healer set and have Relentless/Furious DPS spec and decide to queue up as DPS you get matched against Wrathful bracket.

When you have BiS PvE set and only furious PvP set you'll be also placed in the high bracket.
