WotLK HELP! 6.1k mage with below average dps

Frind of mine is a veteran, maybe the most veteran player on the server (Lordaeron). He literally knows everything about everything, except there is one problem: Theory and practice are the same, in theory but not in practice! His main character is mage and he does have ok-ish equipment, but he can't light up the dps-charts. What can we do to help him pull more of his weight? I obviously something like Ovale Spell Priorities could fix it, but that would probably hurt his feelings. Psychology is very important here, because he defines himself around his achievements in WoW, so his ego might be a little fragile inside, even though he displays himself like a hardcore-elitist on the outside. When you run ICC at least 3-times a week for 14 years, you should be a bit better at it. That's why I want to help him. Since I am pretty much clueless about everything and mages in particular, I need some professional to assist me on this case.

Note: I used Saurfang as the benchmark, because there is no movement, so you can just keep pressing Fireball.

Stuff that can decrease his dps in general:

- caps
- positionning/movement
- incorrect spell usage (LB on beast or other short living adds)
- not using / wasting procs and CDs
- using castsequence macros / being lazy

well budy i will tell you,mage is worst class on this server thats why nobody plays him much,when ever i play arena or bgs i see only 1 mage or 0,mostly hunters,rogues,warriors,dks because they are overpowered with those Smournes and ****s,and nobody cant tell me different,
when ever i ask bout mage thety say you are using wrong rotation,NO I DONT its simply noit balanced with other heroes and thats all

Not sure what you are talking about.
Ttw fire mage is one of the best DPS in raids. Only Fwarr can beat them.

Fire mage is also one of the best DPS in large scale PvP battles because you can sit in the back and just spam LB and instant Pyro.

I think mage is not played that often because it has a higher skill ceiling and the defensives are worse than a hunter's or a priest's for example.

Still, there are lots of mages.

Well, as a fire mage I own those smourne warriors, dks... rogues and hunters are joke!
