1. Protection warrior viability during TBC

Hello, what do you think about pwarriors in TBC Onyxia? Will be possible to find a spot in a raiding casually dads guild for someone who quite fresh to the game. I raided on TBC classic as a pwarrior, cleared all content, but mainly as OT(MTed all fights for at least a few times but Muru p1, was always on big adds).
I rather prefer chill raids with some wipes and fun, but dunno about pservers raiding at all. Are there more elitists than on Classic servers?
And also, what's about the server in general, I know it's based on WotLK, but what's about the for example rage gaining in 1-60 or maybe some1 has tried PTR as a pwarrior? I mean it's more TBC one or WotLK where you get quite more rage of being hit, from your shield and etc?
What's about pwarrior threat on Onyxia, especially on PTR?

  2. Firstly, the server is running expansions almost vanilla so tbc prot warrior will be tbc prot warrior, not wotlk.
There is dungeon finder and dual spec but stats remain the same.

To answer your main question, Prot Warrior is the best maintank throughout most of TBC raids. Paladins technically outscale them when you have some T5 level gear but the defensive cooldowns of warriors are still superior.

    Some quick notes:
Warriors: Usually best MT, easiest to gear since most gear isnt compatible with paladin/druid tanks.
Paladins: By FAR the best for heroics and AOE threat. Harder to crush cap, All around good tank and becomes and absolutely monster in T5+. Something to note is that Paladin tanks in TBC are spelldamage based so your weapon/accessories can sometimes have competition but you have easy access to PvP weapon which is one of your best tanking weapons early on.
Druid: Can't crush cap but higher health pool is nice. Easiest crit immunity through just a few crafted pieces and/or pvp gear. PvP gear is really good for tanking early. A LOT of competition for gear. Some leather pieces are bis even for hunters/ret pally/fury warriors

  3. That's why I was asking about the viability of Protection Warriors. During TBC Classic (I leveled up towards the end of Phase 1, so I missed a portion of the expansion), they were considered the weakest tanks, especially in terms of threat generation and AOE capabilities. I personally had trouble securing a spot in raids—perhaps because I joined too late to take on a main tank role.

I really enjoy the toolkit and the challenge of managing threat in TBC. For example, I actually quit playing during WotLK because threat management for Protection Warriors became too easy, at least in the earlier phases (P1-P2). I'm not sure how it evolved later, but I got bored. Sure, there were some interesting fights in Ulduar, but overall, it wasn't enough to keep me engaged.

I'm curious about what to expect from the upcoming server, especially regarding tanks. Will there be even more elitism around tanking than in TBC Classic, or is the community more laid-back this time around?

And as a prot warrior i had to compete for leather piecies for my aggresive set in order to output a bit more threat, same with all possible consumables and buffs, but maybe just
    skill issue

  4. I'd say most "efficient" guilds will likely bring prot pala + bear or 2x bear for max threat.

All semi-casual guilds will just bring the player that is consistent, not the class.

Pugs will take whatever they can get. There's never been an oversupply of tanks in the pug scene.

  5. warriors are completely left in the dust, their survivability doesnt make up for their lack of threat compared to the other tanks. no chance against bear on single target, no chance against pala on AoE, no niche for warriors

  6. Viability is not the same as how they compete with the other options in a pve context. Can they do the content? Yes, absolutely.

  7. Actually I did all bosses atleast postnerf versions on tbc classic, so warriors can do. But I've never played on warmane and I'm not sure if there are enough patient people for doing that again. But we will see, with 3x will be easier to rerol to a bear.

  8. warrior is for sure the best tank by far till sunwell that we get a patch which removes crushing blows, druids really can struggle in terms of being tanky till then and can hardly flex resistance gear, shield block is just broken for raids bec of crushing blows, but when sunwell launches u basically have no choice but o reroll because druids will be infinitely better then, and warrior is pretty bad in dungeons i would say, u cant hold aoe threat for **** and u dont really contribute to damage of ur group, both other tanks will prob do 3 times a warrior damage while bringing nice buffs to group. u really need to not get trapped by common style of prot warriors which is thunderclap devastate, both are crap abilities, u need to gear for threat and go cleave spec and try to cleave as much as u can to be good in dungs, thunderclap and devastate both do sub 200 damage and imo they are just fillers and used for debuffs-

  9. Viable for sure, but you wont be seeing groups seeking them in pug dungeon/heroics (tank is a tank though), and rarely in pug raids, especially since kara and mag are nerfed.

Also worth noting that shout threat does not seem to be actively working on this server. You wont be shout spamming nightbane to secure landing aggro, nor can you effectively gather 10~ adds over healing aggro with demoralizing shout spam like it is on other servers and classic. Because of this, you would be needing to find a guild that is wanting to fill a very specific slot that doesn't really need to be filled due to the raids all being in their nerfed states.

And that is where this particular server hits prot warriors hard. Nerfed kara means prot pally is strong right out of the gate. Tier 5 will also be in its nerfed state, meaning that while tidewalker might still hit hard, healers wont have much to do outside of just healing the tank, so it will hardly matter who is tanking it. Alar being nerfed means prot warrior loses some value up top as well yet again in tier 5.

The reality is that while people in this thread are not incorrect in basic TBC progression, they are not entirely right in regards to raids being in their final, nerfed state what so ever.

  10. T4 warrior > druid = paladin. - T5 paladin=warrior=druid - T5+ paladin=druid>warrior T6 paladin = druid > warrior (with big diff)
