Disconnected After Authenticating on Warmane Servers (COP_GET_CHARACTERS Issue)
Hi,
I am experiencing consistent disconnection immediately after the "Authenticating" phase, specifically during the COP_GET_CHARACTERS step. This prevents me from creating my first character on Onyxia. I used to play on Feenix TBC years ago but have been inactive on Warmane for 6–8 years.
I am using the correct login and password (letters and numbers only to avoid special character issues).
What I Have Discovered:
Using Wireshark, I identified that the issue occurs during the character list retrieval. Either the client or the server terminates the connection (FIN, ACK from the server).
Port 3724 appears closed by my ISP, but port 8085 is open and tested successfully. However, connecting through this alternative port also fails.
Setup:
Client: WoW WoTLK 3.3.5a (12340) downloaded directly from Warmane's torrent.
OS: Windows 10 x64 (both PC and laptop).
Network: Ethernet, WiFi, mobile hotspot (different ISP), VPN (multiple regions tested).
Other Info: Updated GPU drivers, the latest DirectX installed, and no issues with other online services.
Steps I’ve Taken (Unsuccessful):
Tried connecting with and without VPN (NordVPN, various regions).
Added WoW to Windows Defender and disabled Defender entirely. Also tested without antivirus.
Used a different network (mobile hotspot) and devices (laptop) with the same issue.
Deleted Cache, WTF, and Logs folders multiple times.
Tried launching the game with minimum graphics settings and using compatibility mode (XP SP3). The client crashes on other compatibility settings.
Verified realmlist.wtf and added 62.138.7.219 logon.warmane.com to the hosts file.
Flushed DNS, reset Winsock, and changed DNS to Google’s (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
Verified WoW folder permissions and granted full control to all users.
Confirmed the issue persists on a newly created (separate) account and a clean client installation.
Tested connectivity to Onyxia and other realms (Icecrown, Lordaeron) using IPs and ports (e.g., 8085, 8091, 8092). Ping and tracert work, but the game disconnects.
Turned off IPv6 entirely.
Launching the game using wow.exe with the shortcut "...Wow.exe" -windowed -opengl" and turned off full-screen optimization.
Verified network drivers are functioning properly. My system was installed less than 6 months ago and is fully updated.
Monitored logs via Wireshark, confirming the server sends a FIN, ACK at COP_GET_CHARACTERS.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue. If more information or specific logs are needed, I am more than happy to provide them. Thank you in advance for your time and support!
Im from Poland. I have used my home ISP (Netia) and also used a mobile phone ISP (T-mobile) but in both cases it didn't worked, same issue.
I have also tried for both cases VPN with various locations but also didn't worked.
It seems the server is disconnecting you. You mention you have disabled your antivirus but are you sure you don't have any other programs that may be interfering with your network traffic or with your wow client? You say you have tried using two different computers but you may be running the same problematic software on both of them.

Yes, I have turned of my antivirus software (all shields) + Windows Defender - both didn't helped
I have downloaded different versions of client:
1. WoW from truewow torrent
2. WoW WOD models
3. WoW an other one
In all of them I can simply logon with no issues while on Warme WoW torrent Im still expecting this issue of instant DC after Retrieval Characters List.
I guess I will be using that WOD models just to check if the graphic is really increased.
