Need help on this info , i can need items for disenchant?

Hi sorry for my english i am not native speaker on this language, so i play as fire mage on the realm icecrown and i have my profession "enchant" already 450 or max level, so the question is, i can need items like green or blue for disenchant for materials?, i was playing on icc rep farm and drop alot of greens items so i "need" it for disenchant and after that i got kick out, the raid leader told me i can't do this because i was wrong on need it.
So i want to know if i did something wrong on my behavior.

Don't need for disenchant. There's a reason why greed & disenchant buttons are on roll windows.

Yes, you were wrong, you didn't intend to use them (for their primary purpose, wearing them) so you shouldn't have "Need"ed them.
