General question about transmogs...

Ok, so I understand which weapon can be transmogged into another weapon like daggers into fist weapons or polearms into staves etc...I also think I understand that regarding armor, the player should be able to use the armor and it has to be same armor type aka leather xmoged to different leather.
My question is:
Example1: lets say I am a mage...and I get a warlock set item tier8 either via coins or in any possible way...since that item is generally BoP, its now soulbound. I know I am not able to literally use it as a mage but can I still transmog it since its soulbound or do I specifically need to be able to equip it?
Example2: if I donate for a paladin t7 set on a warrior, can I make that warrior look like a paladin?
( I know there are a lot of items that look very similar or almost completely the same as these set items in many cases but I am asking specifically about the sets since these show as "red" aka different class items...)

If the text on the item says it is warrior only, you can not mog it on a paladin. Most tier pieces are class specific but some are not (for instance, T3)
