Hey guys! I'm starting on Onyxia as a warrior (and also 1st time WOTLK) and want to raid in the future. I was wondering for raiding which is better: Arms or Fury. Of course most bosses are ST but there's also some AoE ones and I want to know if this AoE/ST is irrelevant to raiding when it comes to warrior AND which is the better / slightly better spec considering the AoE/ST or if it doesn't matter at all if one spec is superior.
At first I was thinking of Arms just to spin with Bladestorm but maybe Fury is better? (I come from TWW where Fury is a blast in raiding but it has Bladestorm there, whereas here I saw Fury only has Titan's Grip).
Arms is great for PvE until 5.7-5.8k gs. A lot of sustainable and good damage. After 5.8k gs(depending on gear, this can value from 5.6k up to 5.9k) fury is just superior due to ARP. Once you get good numbers on ARP fury deals a lot more damage.
people who are saying arms is worse than fury are correct only when comparing direct damage output. wrong when taking into consideration raid-wide buffs.
also, arms spec player that knows the class and how to play compared to fury spec player who knows very minimal, will do heaps more raw damage in addition to buffing rest of the party/raid.
also arms is easier to gear up due to needing just one weapon and having armor penetration cap at 90% instead of 100%.
If you care only about damage output, Fury will outdps Arms even on phase 1 at BiS/near BiS, both on ST and AoE fights. If you care about utility and raid optimization, Arms usually brings very required debuffs like Blood Frenzy (extra 4% physical damage raid-wide, same as Combat Rogues) and Trauma (extra 30% bleed damage, same as Bear/Cat Mangle), while Fury brings only Rampage (extra 5% crit chance, same as Bear/Cat as well)
Regarding the ST/AoE, Arms has a higher burst AoE damage with Bladestorm + Sweeping Strikes, but Fury will absolutely get ahead on sustained AoE damage with the spam Cleave + Whirlwind with 2 two-handed weapons, so it will depends on how good is your raid to burst down multiple targets on boss fights (Anub'Rekhan, Faerlina... etc)
To be honest, both are completely fine on Phase 1 since Warriors overall are not huge damage dealers this early in the expansion, so feel free to play whatever you enjoy the most since both are viable. In later Phases, Fury will scale exponentially and become one of the strongest DPS classes for WotlK while Arms will remain decent, but still viable.

If you have enough involvement in this game and this spec, you can do even better numbers than I did. Also, i was the only 1 doing sunder armors. But during this ICC25 alt run raid, I was slightly behind a 6.1k Combat Rogue on single target and on the same level or slightly better than some sweaty Ele (haste pots every pull, and probably >6k GS too).
I'm not a pro in Arms PvE, but here are some of my observations:
Get 4t10
THREAT is a problem
Rend uptime should ideally be around 85%
Don't let deep wounds DoT drop if you can
Spec this: https://wotlk.evowow.com/?talent#Lhr...oGx00xb:qmso0M (You can argue about Unbridled Wrath instead of improved shouts, but since I carry 3t2 and 2t6 with me all the time, I like to have my shouts strongest and longest).
Weapon examples, from best to worst: SM/Oathbinder HC -> Oathbinder NM -> Shadow's Edge -> Hersir's Greatspear HC -> Hersir's Greatspear NM -> etc.
Rotation: Charge -> Rend -> MS -> HS -> OP (if trinkets and 2t10 proc — Spin), etc. I am still not sure about priority regarding Overpower (TfB) and 4t10 Sudden Death procs; both are extremely valuable. For now, I'm leaning towards 4t10 being more important, but I'm not sure.
And the last, but probably most important thing: EXPECT TO BE IGNORED when you type /w RL arms 5.9 [achiev here]. Also, even when you get into a raid after a long inspection, there is a HIGH chance some dog RL will kick you once the raid is ready.
ps. the best part is that you can transmog staves (if you are using a polearm) as a plate user, which will look 100% unique: https://imgur.com/a/urqso53
