Welcome to SOTW 2#

Today (2nd October 2012) I will give you the theme for the user-made SOTW 2#. The theme is:


Africa

A little speach from our Theme Manager, Orphic*.

I chose this because Africa is an exotic continent many of us forget about. Africa has some of the most beautiful and lush forests in the world, as well as the most vast and barren desert in the world. It also has a rich history and variety of cultures to study. The signatures this week must have a theme relating to Africa; it can reflect social and political issues, from the atrocities of Gaddafi to the disintegration of apartheid in South Africa, or accentuate the wonder of the fauna that live there. As long as it portrays an aspect of Africa.

Note: This is a little example to show you a possibility, you may not use this like your own or anything like that.



The SOTW 2#'s deadline is 9th October 2012 [Sunday], then the voting time begins. Send your signatures until then. Send the signatures to ME* via private messages once you finish them. Oh and a little extra note, title the message with SOTW 2# Entry.

If you have any questions about getting resources please visit here*. Also keep in mind that you have certain rules* reguarding signatures. Shortly: Your signature is not allowed to be anything above 500x200. Also avoid plagiarism* at all cost. What is SOTW?
~ SOTW stands for 'Signature Of The Week' and represents a contest which is held weekly.

What do I need to do?
~ All you need to do is send me a signature you created in the given time and in the respective theme which will be given in the thread in the future.

Can I send something my friend made?
~ Definetly not. Even though there is no way of telling if you made it or not, refrain from doing so.

What if I'm too late?
~ I'm going to give you a last chance. Each SOTW will be starting at a given time and ending at one. So I'll tolerate 10-30 mins after the deadline but not more.

~ Sadly, you may only enter 1.

How do I vote?
~ You'll vote in the "Voting Thread" with the vote you are giving and why.

Do I really have to say why?
~ Yes.

Can I vote for myself?
~ No.

RULES:

1. You may enter with only ONE entry.
2. You may vote only ONCE. You CAN NOT change your vote for whatever reason.
3. You may NOT vote for yourself.
4. Your entry's standard dimension are NOT allowed to be above 500x200.
5. Your entry and the theme MUST comply.
6. Once the entry is sent, you may change it ONCE.
7. Enter with your work only. AVOID plagiarism and copyright infringement at all cost.
8. Do NOT post your signatures here, mail them to me.
9. You may NOT put your name on the signature, it MUST be anonymous. I will send you a warrning to correct it if you do so.
10. You MUST say why you vote for the signature you choose.
11. Do NOT post your signatures here, if you do so, I will not accept them as an entry. You will have to create a new one.
12. You may write text on your entry but NOTHING that may reveal who did the signature, so the name of the render, character, fractal or SOTW would be fine.

THE PROCEDURE:

1. Once the theme thread is opened you may take your mouse and get to work. Photoshop all you like. Until the deadline.
2. Once the deadline is over I will not take any signatures into consideration. So keep in mind that you have time to send them UNTIL the deadline, not AFTER.
3. Once the time passes, I will opet a voting thread with the participants.
4. Once the voting time passes, we announce the 3 winners of the SOTW in the next theme thread.
5. /repeat.

Talking about the SoTW theme for this week, wow... this is incredibly strange and weird, but Its a worthy challenge :D

Hello again.
Regarding to the upcoming new Forum's layout, Inflection has stated something on his signature:

Signature rules updating soon! Height may not exceed 125px.

Talking about this new statement with Arlequina, she told me something about a new allowed size for signatures, something like 300px x 125px. But now she has updated her signature to this one:

^ this will be your maximum signature space allowed (including this line of text).

This data is fully calculated by myself.

This does not ensure it's certainly correct.
(I'll update this as soon as I confirm my maths)

Above signature is using a total size of 600px x 132px (line of text x2 + image's height ~ 16px + 16px + 100 px = 132px). But inasmuch as Molten Staff is considering those text lines are making use of 20px as its height, the total height of Arlequina's signature is now of 140px (Which gives a total of 600px x 140px).

• So, a "legal" signature which contain two lines of text (always talking about Top and Bottom -never to the sides- parts of the whole signature) can't make use of an image with more than 100px as its height.
• By logic, a signature with only one line of text can't exceed a height of 120px.
• And a whole image-signature (without any text) can't be bigger than 600px x 140px.

I wonder if the allowed size for signatures to join on this contest is affected by this new change.
I don't see why, since nobody is using these designs, but you may like to update the "rules" with these new sizes... I don't know, i'm just giving advice.

Leona said Monthly Winners of something (SOTW I believe) will be allowed x175 heights.
Still, signatures that thin...I don't like it :|
Anyways, keep this in mind people; allowed signature sizes will be decreased soon, so you may not be able to use some of these in your signatures at a later date.

Last but not least, as pointed out by Yuffie, I have taken the role of a Theme Manager of sorts, and will be responsible for creating and deciding upon the themes for each week. I will do my best to keep them unique, fun, exciting, and hopefully challenging as well. All I ask is that you send in your ideas for themes to me; I take every idea into consideration and I value everyone's input. If you have a comment or would like to discuss why I chose a topic or what I look at when evaluating potential topics, feel free to private message me and I will answer your questions to the best of my ability.

I'd say keep things how they are until the rule actually changes. They might make the space even smaller still.

In my "eyes", the sizes reguarding the signatures are not going to change for now. One of the reason is that the signature sizes are "so small" because they want to 'reduce' the seconds it needs to load a page so reducing the bytes "consumption". But since the SOTW is going to be a post which some pictures (Like other random large pictures are posted) there is no need for the resizing. In my opinion, make them as you like, but listen good, I have NOT said that you may use them as a signature. If the rules change, you'll need to keep the 'pixels' in your signature in the allowed size.

For now, we will not change the sizes that are allowed to be as an entry. You may send them as they are but you may not use them in your signature if they break the rules. This is SOTW, not your signature, just like any other thread has the rights to post random sized pictures.

Shortly: No changes for the SOTW until further notice.

Agree, but this is not a thread to discuss about the new signature rule.
I've just given advice of such a new, and contest administrator has already decided what to do, now let's get back into the topic and get rid of personal opinions about the New Forum's Layout.
Any doubt you may have about forum design matters, ask it directly to moderators via PM for a better answer.
And believe me when I say than moderators have "saved" us from an even smaller size of signatures ^^

Therefore, I will give this SOTW another weeks time for everyone too and to try to participate, I would really love for you guys to participate, no matter how bad you think it is, otherwise there will be no entries, like this week.

I'll update the thread now, but I'll put the date in this post also. So the SOTW 2# will officially end on 14th October 2012 [Sunday]. Please, send your entry no matter how good or bad you think they are!

Heya, I personally found this theme a bit annoying :D I really, REALLY can't get inspired for a sig about Africa xD I've always designed signatures about games and that kind of fancy :D But anyways, I was working on a sig, which i though to finish before tuesday, I'm just adding ideas to it, and when i'm out of them, I just close my PS because I'll screw it all even more without any little piece of "inspiration" XD
I wanna suggest some few days more instead of a whole week, maybe until wednesday?
