Waging war costs money right? In order to fasten up content releasing NPC's should accept in-game donations.
We should copy Blizzard and create an NPC that accepts "bare gold" or even better, "supplies" such as frostweave cloth for example, which people would buy from AH for their gold, and even keep the global economy running healthy while supporting the joint cause.
Guilds who have donated most to the NPC's will be listed by all NPC's or in some billboard. this creates competitive environment between guild of horde and alliance. The superior guild is obviously that who has most funds to spend into "Horde - Alliance joint operation front" against Lich king (for example). and everyone could see whos the one who made it possible to raid that place say, a week earlier. You could even have billboard for individual players.
i.e: Guild <Example> has provided total of 13200 Frostweave clothes | and/or | 50 000 Gold coins for the joint operation against <enemy>, and thus enabled us to start the operation <x amount of days/hours earlier>.
As for devs, when you announce new content, just add <x amount of days> onto the release date which will be reduced by the efforts of above "event". This way you'll create the "need" to spend gold/items in game and at the same time offer the players ability to affect into the gameworld.
Why you have problem with gold? Whats the problem anyway? Someone who take some effort will have more then people that dont do anything, or someone will have luck to get some epic items drops and sell them etc. Wow isnt fair-life isnt fair deal with it :D
80 people in the world are richer than half of population, no one gives a f...
The already available gold drains (2.8 flying, Traveler`s Tundra Mammoth, Kirin Tor Ring, et cetera) are usually enough given a normal, 1fold gold rate.
Only the high rate realms tend to have some issues because people will mine at a much higher rate, and even then, they`re only moderate.
You`re seeing issues where there are none.
I'm personally pretty sure we won't have any issues with excessive amount of gold because of the realm rates. It will be much harder to get gold on Lordaeron than any other realm on our server. It won't be any different than Blizzard realms economy back in WOTLK days. The only issue might be on the first weeks while people who didn't played on low-rate realms will raise items value but later it will be for sure balanced when players realize how hard it will be to get each item or max out each profession and start to undercut each others.
Weird suggestion. I doubt that would fly even in a pure RP server. Who would donate some virtual gold into a game just to see their names on boards?
Personally I'd rather spend my gold on gears, repairs, materials, gems and gear enchantments to perform better in raids, than literally throwing it away and be merited for that.
