can any one tell me why this is happening? I've just D/L the client and created an account here and I cant log in :) sorry if its been asked before im having trouble navigating around. Its basically logging me in but then going to a patching screen have i missed something?

You don't have to download anything and it doesn't have to update. It tries to update if you try to log in with email instead of username. Check realmlist.wtf file in Data/enGB or enUS. In that file there should be:

ok thanks Anyone0 that did the trick! logged in and now to choose my server! it says they are all pvp so its constant pvp on them or can you turn it off?
Thanks so much again! also any recommendations on which server to start on Ragnaros or Deathwing?

World pvp is enabled. You can disable pvp in your factions cities and starting zones. Other than that it's always enabled and you can't disable it. There should not be big difference between Ragnaros and Deathwing. Ragnaros used to have a bit higher population but it's almost same as Deathwing now.
